    Hi Shawn,

Great tutorial. I had wmv and mpg extensions corrupted by uninstalling VLC (at least I think it was as a few days have passed). The only problem I found was that when I did a restart my system drive was marked dirty. A chkdsk sorted that though and all seems well now.

    Hello Keith,

It sounded like VLC or something may have corrupted your HDD since it was marked dirty. If it happens often, then you might check to see if your HDD may be failing.

It happens from time to time after an install or removal, the last time was in November. I do a full chkdsk once a month. The last was on Saturday afternoon and was clear apart from cleaning a few unused index entries.

    Outlook .pst

    Hi Brink,

First time on this forum for me. I must credit you with an excellent post!

I am after the default "file extension type" for Outlook (.pst), which I couldn't see on your list.

    thanks in advance

Hello John, and welcome to Seven Forums.

.pst files are program specific and do not have a default program by default in Windows 7 until a program like Outlook is installed. The only problem is that I can't create a default REG for .pst since it also depends on what version of Outlook was installed. It will not always be the same for everyone, so it wouldn't work for everyone.

I can create one that would set .pst files back to not having a default program though if you wanted that.

You could also use Default Programs to manually set Microsoft Outlook to be the default program along with all of it's associations.

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

    Hi Shawn,

All solved. I used the Defaults Programs, to set up the file association for Outlook .pst files.

    Thanks again
