What about .ai ? (Illustrator CS3, properly installed, but somehow got mixed up with an older version (CS2), which I subsequently uninstalled. Now it won't let me change file associations to the later version).

Hello Greg, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You might see if reinstalling CS3 to do a repair install may help.

Are you able to select to "Open with" CS3 or it's .exe file for .ai files?

Open With - Change Default Program

Hope this helps for now, :)

    Thanks for replying Shawn -
    - nope, Illustrator doesn't show up on the list and I get no action when selecting the .exe.
By default, the program/exe selection box opens to 'C:\Program Files', but it's actually installed in 'c:\program files (x86)'. (BTW, sorry it's CS4 actually, not CS3. Tried relocating the exe to 'program files' but of course that didn't work).
    Also, CS4 apparently doesn't allow a repair, just un/re-install.

    Cheers,
    --G

In that case, you might check in Default programs to see if you may be able set CS4 as the default program with all of it's associations.
If that doesn't help, then you might see if uninstalling and reinstalling CS4 may.

Re-inst should definitely work, but was trying to avoid that to preserve pref settings etc., that's why I was hoping for a registry fix/reset. Thanks anyway. --G

Not able to replace Notepad with regedit

I downloaded the .exe fix file and right clicked on it. Clicked Merge and it opened as text.
Went to Defaults and changed the .reg entry from Notepad to C:\windows\regedit.
Right-clicked the .exe fix file but Merge was replaced with Open.
Went back to Defaults and Notepad was shown as the default even though the text line showed regedit.
I am the (confused) administrator. What am I missing?
