    No worries. :)

You would basically right click on a .py file, click on Open with, and either select the pytivo program, or click on "Choose default program" to browse to and select the .exe file of the pytivo program.

Clicking on the link in my post above will give you more details to further help.

Sorry didn't notice we had created another page

Therein lies the problem. The .py file is the executable so I can't really tell it to open with itself.

In that case, you could do a system restore using a restore point dated before it was changed to undo it.

A system restore seems drastic. There is no way to designate .py files as executable? Seems like such a small problem to warrant a restore

Plus it looks like my system restore doesn't go back far enough.

Nar, a system restore would be perfect to quickly undo a recent action. It's not a factory restore, but just a quick undo to a restore point. The link above will give you more details if needed.

Wouldn't you use a program like Python to open a .py file with?

I have no idea how it functions with python but whatever it does it is supposed to start a service to transfer files between my computer and tivo. I am in no way savy about how software works but the file itself is very small so I just think it is a script to start the services necessary to make the magic happen. My latest restore only goes back a month and I've had this problem for almost 4.

If you like, you could try downloading and merging the .reg file below to completely unassociated .py files, then restart the computer to see if that may help.

If not, then reinstalling whatever you installed originally for use with .py files should restore it.

Bam that seems to have done it.

You my friend are a genius. I will test it out in the morning but it looks like the service started right up.

    I owe you a beer :)

mkv - A Matroska Multimedia Container file is a video format [...] This download will set this file extension back to the default unassociated state in Windows 7.
Thanks a lot! I was getting crazy trying to get mkv files associated with mplayer2. Mkv was missing from file types list and mplayer has no options (portable binary)
