I mean it was missing on file type list on my PC (control panel>default programs>associate filetype) so I couldnt assign file to program. Mplayer was not on programs list so I couldnt associate it with file. I couldn't change 'open with' in file properties (there was no CHANGE button) and option 'Always use the selected program...' when right-click file, 'open with...' was greyed out. Reg file fixed it, I was able to choose default program for mkv files.

Today problem with OGG - I found it on my filetype list (associated with firefox), but there was no alternative application to change (I use Foobar2000 Portable). I quickly installed Foobar2000 as workaround but my question is: Is there any way to 'register' portable applications with Windows to avoid such problems in future?
btw. ogg is not on your list

    Hello Mark,

Sure, all the tutorials are still in use and valid here. I try to constantly keep them updated. :)

I'm afraid Windows doesn't have a default association for .dex files. Were you wanting to unassociate it?

    ah OK,

Iv been messing around with my androids system files so prob from my phone, I accidently forgot to untick 'open with by default' and now notepad is default opener of .dex, but as .dex is not a windows file then i dont think theres a problem really, as dex on my phone will have its own default program....am i right?

Thanks for yr response anyway :)

    Mark,

If you like, you could download and merge the .reg file below to unassociated .dex files. :)
