Hi, could I request a .fn2 restore option for this extension? I have it on auto open with notepad/word to read it but it just messes up the file making it unusable ):

Hello mochimochi, and welcome to Seven Forums.

I'm sorry, but Windows doesn't have a default association for .fn2 file types.

Are you able to use "Open with" to set a .fn2 file to always open with a program you wanted.

Hi Brink, thanks for the quick reply. I really appreciate it. I was trying to be remove the default program but couldn't get around it. I just wanted restore it back to its original setting of having no default program but that's not really necessary anymore because i solved my other problem haha. Thank you though!

Great news. For others with the same issue, you can use an option in the tutorial below to unassociate a file type.

Thanks so much for your information. Although your reg file didn't solve my .txt file association problem, it did at least rule out that the .txt reg entries were the problem. I eventually tracked it down to the explorer replacement that I use (Xyplorer) having a dodgy entry in tools / file associations that was overriding the normal .txt entries in the registry. I'm posting here in case it may help someone else.

Also during the troublehsooting process I noticed that you have a typo in the Default_LOG.reg file:

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.dic\PersistentHandler]
    @="{5e941d80-bf96-11cd-b579-08002b30bfeb}"

    should be

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.log\PersistentHandler]
    @="{5e941d80-bf96-11cd-b579-08002b30bfeb}"

    Thanks

Thank you njwsf, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Actually, that entry shouldn't be there at all for .log files.

Windows Explorer Icon for EXE-Files --> unknown Filetype Icon

    Hello everybody,
I do have a problem with exe-files in windows-explorer. If an exe-file is chosen in the windows-explorer window, the icon "unknown filetype" shows up in the upper bar (see screenshot).
I did delete the iconcache and I tried Default_EXE and Default_LNK Registry files out of this thread. But this did not help for my problem within windows explorer. Maybe one of you can tell me, where in the registry I can find the suitable entry to change this icon back to default.

My system is Windows 7 Prof 64bit (german version).

    Regards

    Thomas
