Thank you for the wonderful and life saving post.
Last time I screwed up with file extensions I ended up using System Restore. And that too became complicated due to antivirus software.

Been a while since I needed to ask for help here as Win7 has been pretty good to me but here's my situation.
I am about to beta test an app and currently the app has a bug which will not let you desect the option to change file associations without crashing the installer. The problem is I don't want to lose my current file associations. Is there an easy way to save my complete current file associations so I can run the installer, allow it to mess with my associations, and then after the install simply restore my origonal associations? I know I could use a sys restore point but then it will hide/remove the beta app I'm going to be testing

Do you know what file extensions it will be affecting? If so, I can just make sure that they are listed here to restore them back to default as needed by you.

To be honest, without going thru the install I can't say for sure. Its Nero 10 I'll be beta testing so its going to probably try to change all my mutimedia file associations thats why I wondered it there was a specific section of the registry I could back up and then after the install I could run the reg file of the backup so all the current associations are reset

The default associations are spread out to much in registry, and not knowing the specific file extensions, it would be much easier to use System Restore instead to restore them and just reinstalling Nero 10 if needed.

LOL, thats the problem hehe. If I install Nero 10 Beta and it changes my associations and I then do a restore I get back my associations but would lose Nero 10. Then reinstalling 10 would redo my associations again which is a no win situation <faceplam>
