    Snowe,

If you downloaded and merged the EXE option here and restarted the computer with no luck, then you might consider a repair install instead without losing anything.

Okay. I am trying it now. I'll get back to you in a minute with an update. Thank you.

i got an error after I clicked upgrade. The computer spent about five minutes "checking" something and then the error now says. Compatability Report (saved to desktop)
The Following issues are preventing Windows from upgrading. Cancel the upgrade, complete each task, and then restart the upgrade to continue.

    • An error prevented a required compliance check from completing. Cancel the installation and try upgrading again.
    • Windows needs to be restarted so necessary changes to system files can be made before continuing.

Ok. Restart the computer, then try the repair install again afterwards. :)

I got this error after the "Checking Compatability" screen again...

okay i googled it. it seems like the problem one other person had was that the partition with windows wasn't his boot partition like mine. I'm actually triple booting so let me see if I can get Windows to be the boot partition.

alright. I changed the default boot partition and now I'm trying to repair the Windows install again.

    UPDATE:
I repaired it and it still doesn't associate exe right.

Looks like you may need to do a clean reinstall of Windows 7 then.

Well I think this could be the weirdest case ever. So let me begin. First I had to set the Windows partition as active. So to do that I went into the Mac partition and changed the com.apple.Boot.plist to use Windows as the default. Well that didn't work. So I used cmd then

    • diskpart
    • list disk
    • select disk 0
    • list part
    • select part 2
    • active
    • exit
    • exit

to set the Windows partition as active. That worked and after about 2 hours Windows was upgraded and repaired. Went into Windows, exe still not working. I retried all of the registry edits I had found and it seemed like none of them worked. I logged off, back on, restarted. Then I did a stupid thing and marked the Mac partition as active again. Whoops, now since the Windows repair had overwritten the MBR file, Chameleon (my bootloader) wouldn't boot. So I went into the arduous process of reinstalling Chameleon. After installing Chameleon, Windows wouldn't boot and neither would Mac. So I was in a pickle. Now I had to use the Mac cd to go into terminal to set the Windows partition as active, then go boot from the Windows cd to repair the startup permissions. After doing all of that I was finally able to boot back into Windows. Only to discover the .exe file associations had fixed themselves. Somehow. Ha. Moral of the story kids, don't ever change the .exe default file association.

Wow, I'm happy to hear that you managed to get it sorted and that it the EXE association worked itself out for you. :)
