Hello Ilps,

If the "Ultimate Upgrade" key is a retail version, it is not activated on another computer, and you currently have a retail (not a pre-release build) Windows 7 Ultimate edition installed, then yes you can use this number.

You are able to do a clean install with a retail Upgrade Windows 7.

Thanks!

Yes... the slmgr -dli command says I am: Windows(R)7, RETAIL channel

With doing a clean install I can see it asking for the original VISTA or XP install materials to validate that I am doing an upgrade, but just entering in the product key on activation on an old install I guess it will "trust me".

FYI.... I purchased the Ultimate Upgrade and entered the Product Key. The verification process worked and I am registered.

My only whine is that it never replaced the Black Desktop with my Desktop Graphic from before the trial period ran out.

Hello Ilps,

I'm happy to hear that you got it activated ok. Were you able to manually change your desktop background afterwards though?

Does this mean my windows 7 license is valid for eternity?
Because I don't really get it, I thought I had a evaluation version which would expire. about 10 days ago I got a pop-up that told me to backup my files because my license would expire in 14 days...so I bought a new license yesterday and before I do anything with it I check my old license once again. And now my old license seems to be valid and I don't get the pop-up.... just now I'm typing this the pop up shows up saying I got 4 days left...tried to screen shot it but it faded pretty fast:

Do I need to install my new license or will my current one keep doing the job (and can I perhaps give my license to someone else.)
Because the Pop-up disappeared pretty fast and I can find nothing about it in the Action Center or other control panels, it seems rather fake to me, or maybe it's a bug?

PS; How do I add pictures in advanced mode? In quick edit mode ti was a piece of cake but in advanced it seemed I coudl only add file links

Hello Marskrammer,

Since you only have an evaluation copy, you will still need to change your key number to the one that you purchased and then activate Windows 7 before the old one expires.
