it turns out that the dell laptop is running win 7 pro 32bit and the other home. is this a problem or should i seek out another one that has home version installed?.
reason i ask is because i have a problem accessing the system recovery through the normal route.what i get is a disk read error when i boot so will the repair disk solve this?

Before going through the proper avenue of OS Repair, I wanted to clarify a few things first.

First of all, my situation. My OEM Laptop displays the error on the bootup screen "Error loading operating system" or something to that effect. So naturally, I came here for solutions as to repair Win 7.

That said, I am in contact with a friend that is allowing me to create a repair disc on his OEM Laptop which also has Win 7 x64. So this means that he must download the proper ISO files, correct?


Secondly, using the repair disc will not cause me to lose my data, files, documents, etc, will it?

a response will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Shawn. We'll find out if it works tomorrow, and will update accordingly.

And this won't harm the files, programs, documents, etc I have saved to my HD will it?

I do have backup disks, it's just that they aren't as updated as I'd like them to be. I have a series of important work and school related documents that I have only recently added in the past month or so, so they aren't on the backup disks. They are the primary reason why I asked about the possibility of file loss, as they are vital.
