Thanks for the response guys. I thought about a clean install at first so I'll take the advice fro the pros. Nothing better than a fresh computer with just the OS and start from the ground up

I used this and I have very limited knowledge of computers and really didn't have any idea just how much stuff was on my pc that I never used. This pc tutorial was awesome and comes with Gregs help so in my opinion it is awesome and I have already started recommending this site and this tutorial.I think it is definately explained very simple so that learners like me can use it!!EXCELLENT GREG!!

when you say
do you mean system repair disk ? are they the same thing as Recovery Disks ?4. Make your Recovery Disks so you have a path back to factory condition
They are not the same.
A System Repair disk can be created using Windows Backup and Restore. It contains a so called recovery console that helps to repair most common boot and functionality problems. System Repair disk is quite small, you do not need a DVD for that. An empty CD is enough to create a system repair disk.
A Recovery Disk Set is a set of DVDs that can be used to completely restore your PC to factory conditions. It contains the operating system for instance Windows 7, hardware specific drivers and (usually) a collection of bundled software also known as crapware. For instance on this laptop (see my specs) the recovery set is 4 DVDs.
- System Repair Disk = A CD, to fix boot and functionality issues on a PC, not for reinstalling
- Recovery Disk Set = Multiple DVDs, used to restore PC to factory conditions (reinstall)

We recommend making the Recovery Disks in the rare case you need to return the PC under warranty and Tech Support insists it have the Factory Install on it, or if you decide to sell the PC and want an easy way to restore to factory condition to allow the new owner to set it up again.
No one who's done the Clean Reinstall reports they have resorted to Factory Recovery, so you can also (now or later) delete the Recovery partition since you'll have the disks as a backup.
You shouldn't need a System Repair Disk since you'll have the Installer which has the same System Recovery Options on it.
thank-you for your replys
This what came on my laptop, a pre-installed recovery partition, I have used it once to restore my laptop to factory setting when it was running very slow a month or so back. At the moment i don't want to do a fresh install because my laptop is running OK but I want to be prepared for disaster and have all my bases covered, also next time I need to factory reset my PC I'd like to do a fresh install instead of using my recovery partition because then it doesn't have all the bloatware on that I'll have to mess about getting rid of. At the moment I have a back-up with system image on an external hard-drive , plus I made a system repair disk and I have also today created a windows installation disk ( as I didn't get one with my PC/ laptop)NOTE: This is if your computer did not come with a Windows 7 installation DVD, and has pre-installed recovery options (recovery partition) instead.
Untill lately I used to just run windows back-up and leave it at that because I didn't really understand it all and still don't completely but I have a better understanding of it thanks to this forum it's only after I had to do a factory reset of my laptop that I starting teaching myself all about the whole process.
HP's have the worst load of preinstalled crapware but on the newer models have a Minimal Recovery choice when running HP System Recovery which is nearly a clean reinstall. If you have it you can try that.
Hi all,
I'm looking to do a clean reinstall and came across this forum. Looks perfect but I have a few questions:
1. Will this work with my ASUS pc?
2. I don't believe my HD has a recovery partition left on it. Something went wrong during my last reinstall and I think it's gone, See the attached screen shot. So again will this work for me?
Thanks for your help because I really need it!
