I know I'm gonna get slammed for this but the whole Tutorial baffles me. I realize that many have sailed thru it but for me , it might as well be written in a foreign language & I've read thru it many times. That's one of the reasons that I've asked elsewhere about 'uninstalling' some of the programs that came preinstalled on mine.
You don't need to ask elsewhere because we have a tutorial that covers Clean Up Factory Bloatware.
If the Reinstall tutorial seems to bog down in preparation steps its because these are collected from everyone who has suffered data loss by forgetting to back up something important before install. If one of these was left out a young employee reinstalling for his boss might not know, for example, that Quickbooks hides the company data file in Public Documents which few ever use. So we may have even saved some jobs, and a lot of data.
Do you have a suggestion for narrowing it further? Sometimes its easy to lose the broader view after helping with literally tens of thousands of installs.

Been in the computer business a looooong, longer than most of you have been alive, and we developed our own "puter" language and sometimes some need a translator for those that speak only English, and we forget that.
Give us a try. Any "slamming" will only come from the "smart alecks" and they are not as smart as they think they are.
They give you a hard time, tell them I said to "stuff it".

@Greg, what I meant by elsewhere was here at sevenforum in Software. I have looked at the "Bloatware Tut" also. But before I was even aware of any tuts, I guess I jumped the gun & did follow some suggestions here at forum, msconfig for one but not even sure I did that right.
I don't trust my judgment as for how I have settings/configurations (whatever is the right term) so don't think I'd want a backup made of this mess. I'm also very unorganized when it comes to files, folders,etc., think I have photo's scattered for one thing, just kinda jumped into using Windows 7 from XP without doing any study. I'm also a packrat & realize that I need to slow down & do some serious cleaning.
Guess I'd best shut up now before I write a book. Oh, you're asking the wrong person for suggestions, I'm a ditz. lol

Greg I just read through again and I noticed the special notes for HP and Acer and Lenovo etc owners and having a few Toshibas the bloat that comes with them is easy to get rid of yet there a couple that come back through Windows updates.
Now I am not on that machine right now and can't tell you what they are but they are persistent blighters but as soon as I can find them I shall let you know. :)

The biggest step you can take toward getting organized is to sort your files that you want to keep into the User folders. There is one for almost everything, including Desktop for those things you need readier access to.

By User folders, you mean Libraries?

That could be used for both since the separate user folders are included in libraries by default. :)

Libraries is actually one of the things I really should've studied before I even attempted to use Windows 7 'cuz I've often wondered if I was doing it right. Just took a look in Windows Explorer & see what looks like a lot of duplication or redundancy (whichever is the correct term), although I'm not sure if it's my fault or just the way Win. 7 does things.
