How about Step 3. Does that adequately cover backing up beforehand? Reword?

    Just some thoughts Greg.

    Step # 2
Add the website for Belarc would be helpful.

    Step #4
A mention to save the COA to a safe place (wright it down) just in case it's needed later.

    Step # 12

I'm not quite sure why Windows 7 built in defrag is side stepped.
For me it works quite well. I do believe the option to use Windows 7 defrag should be mentioned.
It has been noted on this forum that some 3rd part defraggers loose Restore points.
I don't remember which 3rd party defrags do this.

Because this is a clean install I think adding gadgets after using the clean install for a while would be a better options. It would eliminate the possibility of a gadget causing a problem on a clean install. To the best of my memory gadgets are still not recommended by Microsoft because of security problems.

Verify Malwarebytes, SAS and MSE are properly updated after the install of each.

This tutorial has been great for a long time and I think your updating it will even make more happy customers.

Jack are you not getting a hotlink for Belarc to its Download page?

Made most of the other suggested adjustments, although I want to wait to see if anyone has any problems with the 8 Gadget pack since it is stable in all of my installs so far. What's not stable is the built-in Win7 gadgets which MS will not either kill or fix, probably because they are popular with millions of customers.

    I am now. I wasn't before but I was in W-10.
I'm in W-7 now and the hyper link for Belarc works as it should.

Greg now Gary told me you were the one to ask re partitions and so I have bought a new machine an Asus ROG G750JM that came with 8 on it but I wanted 7 so got the seller to install 7 as an option (because of a BIOS problem).

Now I have had a great deal of trouble getting things sorted out and tonight I looked at the install the dealer did on a new SSD I put in the machine for him to install 7 onto, and in Partition Wizard I found what is in the pic in a thread I started a few minutes ago. Very odd partition

Looking at the peculiar partition set up I then looked at the install I did on a new SSD and using your tutorial ISO and the activation code the seller gave me, and low and behold it has this weird partition set up.

I really don't know what to make of it can you please help in understanding what is going on because I only expected the 100MB partition and then the C: one - pic of both drives the bottom one is the install I did this morning using the ISO and a new SSD so it had nothing to do with the seller.

Disk 1 has a typical UEFI install to GPT format disk. But it should not have an Active flag which are only used on Legacy installs to an MBR format disk.

Disk2 looks the same: A UEFI install to GPT disk, but again with an Active partition which should never be on a UEFI install to GPT disk.

Thanks Greg now would it have something to do with this machine being originally set up with 8.1??

As long as it is normal as I really am not familiar with this stuff I just wondered why the 128MB should be there and especially empty not that it is a great deal of space to lose but worrying because I have had so much trouble getting this machine sorted out and I thought the seller may have set the machine up with some ridiculous nonsense. It was also because I know the drives were completely new and empty before the installs. The install went perfectly ok and I just wasn't expecting this.

It's not empty, it's the hidden boot partition normally issued for a UEFI install on a GPT disk. If you're unfamilar with that architecture I provided you with a video about it above.
