After all Updates (including optional) are installed, check Device Manager for any missing Updates, import them from the PC or Device model's Support Download's webpage. There may be other software needed to add back functionality. All of this is covered in the tutorial. Let us know if you need any help.
As per Greg's reply, Windows will find most of the drivers for you - for the lost functionality of the laptop you want, download the remaining drivers and applications from here, by selecting your laptop make and model:

Ok, I got most of the drivers installed but I had to give it back before I finished (He had been without FB for a week and wasn't coping).
So at the moment I still have 2 unknown devices in Device Manager and can't seem to sort them out. Some of the links I followed led me to Driver Detective but using that has got me a bit more confused. Does it matter that I downloaded 3 different LAN drivers before I got the right one? Should I purchase Device Doctor and let it do its thing? (it's supposed to download and install the current drivers for your machine and clean up any that are no required)
Other than that it all seems to be working fine, I am getting it back a little later in the week to sort it out and then image the drive for him so it will be easier to fix next time.
If you have any thoughts on my Unknown devices please post back otherwise I will post again when I get it back.

No, its definately not neccessary to purchase anything at all, in fact I recommend you don't. We can definately sort this issue out for you, no worries. Be careful of so-called free driver download scanners etc., before you know it they'll have you paying for something you can here for free.
Can you post a screen capture image of Device Manager showing these unknown devices?

Do not use any driver programs with Win7 as they are counterproductive.
Hi, I am running into some similar problems and wonder if anyone could clue me in. I'm such a layman!
I ran into a trojan that corrupted system files, as well as the recovery partition, on my Asus A53E. No recovery disc either, so no restoring to factory condition.
So I ran a clean install of Windows 7 64-bit; burned the ISO image to DVD and it installed correctly as far as I can tell. Of course, I completely forgot about drivers and now find that Windows can't recognize any of my devices / doesn't have drivers installed -- including wireless / LAN and USB. So I can't get online (to update) and I can't import any of my files.
None of the wireless driver installs from Asus worked -- they all said the card/hardware is missing. I haven't tried the LAN drivers (which I should have, since there were only 3 to choose from). Since this was at 4am last night, I gave up and figured I will burn SIW later today and run it to see what devices I have (don't know off the top of my head).
But I was troubled by the fact that NONE of the wireless drivers from Asus worked -- I know that one of them used to be my wireless driver before I clean installed. I don't get it. I feel like something is just going right over my head here.
If I could just get online, I figure Windows could probably find most of the drivers on its own. But alas... how? Or am I in an even worse situation than I thought? It seems like I'm carrying around a brick, here.

Is there an order drivers need to be installed in? I've been seeing something about chipset drivers needing to be installed first -- is it possible I don't have those, and that's why the WLAN drivers won't install?
Also, I haven't activated Windows, as I can't get online. Does this have something to do with it? If so, I backed up my key and cert with ABR and can import via a burned disc. Didn't think it had anything to do with it, though.

Plug in by wire which should load the ethernet driver. If not download and install it from the Asus Support Downloads webpage for your model. Make sure you have the correct model number to find the correct drivers.
Once you're online continue with the tutorial steps to do your Updates, watching for optional Updates to provide drivers once you enable to Automatically get recommended drivers and updates for your hardware . When Updates are complete import any missing driver in Device Manager from the Asus Downloads webpage for your model.
If you're stuck on a Device you can determine with certainty it's make and model using Hardware Identification then google for the Windows 7 or if necessary Vista driver. We can also help you find these.
When you ask about old XPired methods where chipset needs to be installed first, it makes me wonder if you've even read the tutorial you should be following closely if you want a perfect reinstall. Win7 handles drivers differently than XP which is clearly explained.

If it wasn't clear, I read the tutorial after the fact. I came here after this was said and done. Which is why I did a clean install without backing up any of my drivers. Had I read the tutorial, I wouldn't be in this situation.
I mish-mashed what I've done together from various sources, at least one of which describes the chipset issue mentioned. Just threw it out there in case it rang some bells with someone. Apparently not....
