IE is good now, as is Firefox' latest version. But it all comes down to your personal preference. I only will not install any Google software because I don't like the tracking they do, pasting ads everywhere you go based on what you say in emails. It's creepy.

But you can mitigate this quite a bit with Opt Out of Network Advertising mentioned in the Clean Reinstall tutorial.

    15. Activation at Control Panel>System may require a robocall to MS the first time to record your hardware signature in their servers. It will always work as long as you install the correct version and input the key accurately.

    ----

I'm not sure if I'm reading this right, but I assume by Activation that is referring to where you would enter your product key if you didn't happen to enter it during the installation process?

    16. ● I also recommend running Puran free boot-time defragger + Full Disk Check (after checking Intelligent Optimizer on Additional Operations tab) for state-of-the-art defrag which includes System files. Do not defrag an SSD!

    What is an SSD?

Not necessarily, Activation is a separate process.

If your computer properties window looks like this one, stating windows is activated,

You are good to go, if it doesn't just click activate now.

    Here's some more info,

    Activate Windows 7 Online

    What is an SSD?
Solid State Drive, doesn't apply to your system, you don't have one.

Okay, nevermind. I did find activate and managed to activate successfully. Thanks, Derek.

Should I have any reservations about defragging anything using Puran Defragger or using any specific features within the program?

    You're welcome.

How come most of the links to download the English versions of Windows 7 are dashed out? They weren't dashed the first time I visited the site yesterday. How come?
