Well Greg I stand to be corrected but right now I am away from my main machines and I am pretty sure I have had updates for the touchpad in particular come through.

When I get chance I shall look them up and send a snip.

Thanks for the further info. I'll keep a watch out and see what appears in WU update.

(The major stumbling block initially was that I could see no wireless card driver on the Toshiba site but a quick search turned one up on a German Toshiba site. Its definitely missing from the UK one, and its really the first thing you need)

Mooly you need to look for the PART NO: on the sticker at the back of the machine as it pertains to where and where for the machine was made (regional). That is say the PART NO for example a L650 will be different to one bought out here and one bought in the US - I am not saying this is the case but maybe possible.

You need this as just typing in say Satellite L550 (like mine) will give you references from wherever.
Look at my pic it is my part number and you will get a more direct link to your machine if you type that in the search window on the Toshiba site.

Thanks. The UK site asked for either model or serial numbers (as well as just a drop down "find your model from the list" option) The exact model I think was something like a "DF" prefix at the end but that wasn't on the list. It accepted the serial number and brought up three pages of drivers for the L670 series (and all the bloatware too) but definitely no wireless driver. Very odd.

Just out of curiosity mate have a look at the bottom of your machine because just very recently an older A200 I did up for my partners daughter I went looking for just what you are looking for and the PART NO on the bottom of the machine according to Toshiba did not exist!!

So instead of using the drop down list use the sticker number.

If you don't mind could you send me the number so I can take a look at the drivers please??
    John

PS Have had a quick look and this might be what you are looking for
Driver Downloads - Computers | Toshiba - Toshiba

Now having said that I have just checked mine again and I get a WAN driver if I put in the PART NO and it gives me tow options one for Realtek and one for Atheros - so you se what I mean about that number.

To check which one you have see this

    Using HW Info general components

DownloadHW Info and pick the right bit version - HWiNFO, HWiNFO32/64 - Download - (copy andpaste this site into the search bar) If you do not need the running informationin the smaller right hand panel close it. In the left hand window click on the+ for the individual device groupings and they will open out to the variouscomponents.

Goon opening out further until you get to the device itself. click on it and itwill highlight. In the right hand window there will be a very detaileddescription of that device as in brand, speeds model number etc etc These arevery detailed and are just what is needed for searching for drivers etc.

Seemy pic for an example - in this I have opened out one my components and then highlighted one of the one you need andyou can see the detail.

    Part number is PSK3JE-01Q00JEN.

It was Realtek that I needed (I can see one from your link and by inputting the details)

The clean install has gone well, I've only used WLAN, Video and audio drivers, touchpad, camera and ACHI. Card reader was picked up OK. All running really well.

Yep, handed by to a grateful owner. I transferred a now unused copy of Acronis TI2012 over to it... so hopefully we can always go back to this base image if needed.

Actually Mooly if the Acronis ever plays up on you Macrium is my personal favourite for imaging and cloning and it is free.

    See this
Imaging with free Macrium I set it for a weekly image as I am rather overkill paranoid

Thanks :) (and that's not paranoid)

I've never had any problems with Acronis tbh and use it and trust it implicitly. I run daily incrementals (weekly cycle), full monthlies and also back up user files to flash memory as and when. The monthlies I move to an external drive.

Now my friend with the new W7 install....... if we get one or two backups a year we'll be doing well :)
