    Avengement,

I'm happy to hear that you got the "Desktop" folder icon sorted. :)

You should go ahead and create a new thread for the other issues since they're not related to this tutorial though.

I rebuilt the icon cache and that took care of it the "Save As" issue.

I was very careful to do this exactly as written. The registry is not new to me. I made my own custom icon called Folder-icon256x256.ico, placed it in the Windows folder to be accessible to all files. It's not working.

Hello RoWin7, and welcome to Seven Forums. :)

The method in this tutorial will only apply to what's in the blue note box at the top.

You might see if the method in the tutorial below may work better for what you want instead.

    Blue note box?

I'm not tangling with a Resource Hacker, too technical. I had the impression I was changing all the default folder icons in the filing system.

So you're saying sometimes the first method doesn't work.

Nope. Only that it will only affect what's mentioned in the note box at the top of the tutorial instead.

Right. "Change Windows 7 Default Folder Icon." We're having a communication problem. NOTHING has changed in my Win Explorer, my desktop or anywhere else.
