    Worked for me, but...

The procedure worked fine for me, but none of the games listed in GameUXLegacyGDFs.txt seem to display any ratings information. The ApplicationId is downloading the correct icon and game info into the registry (which I then edit), but there is no accompanying rating info. The GEF shows all other information, but on the RHS it just says "No Rating Provided". The GameUXLegacyGDFs.txt file contains rating info, so am I supposed to copy/paste this into the registry somehow?

    MMM... RHS? shouldn't be ESRB?
Try to change the rating system under parental controls in the GEF.

Thanks Rjck. Yes that was the problem: not the parental controls themselves, but the fact that I hadn't actually selected a rating system.

The only missing element now is the suggested Windows performance rating that appears above the perental rating. But maybe this is a feature of ConfigInstallType 2 and not 3?

Of course, if I had the Application Id for Metro 2033, none of this trickery would be necessary.

try to copy that target location and go to

    C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\GameExplorer\GamesBoxArt

Then find the folder with the counter-strike shortcut and right click-it
now change the location to the one that works on your desktop. now try it.

I've only tried a few but they do all have application id's in your txt file. Not sure if 32 bit / 64 bit is responsible. I believe Service Pack 1 is the culprit - do you have SP1 installed? Just seems strange that myself and Kindred both have SP1 on 64-bit and get same problem.

Games that have populated correctly on the Games Explorer are:

    Football Manager 2010
    Crysis
    Hellgate: London

These were all released after Vista intro'd the Game Explorer which I guess is why they populate ok.

Older games that are not showing up correctly in Games Explorer and require complete manual editing of the registry are:

    Doom 3
    Tiger Woods 2005
    Quake III Arena
    Left 4 Dead

On my Vista Laptop the information for these 'older' games does download into Games Explorer fine with all the art/details (only ratings missing but seeing as they are pre-vista releases that's to be expected). Windows 7 does not even though they have application id's. Shame really as 90% of my games are older titles so I guess will be doing a lot of editing. Convinced it's a Service Pack 1 bug. Maybe computers that come SP1 pre-installed won't have this problem but I did mine through the dreaded Windows Update service!

Despite all this, your excellent guide has helped no end. Without it I wouldn't of been able to manually fix as I been able to do.
Hey scotty im on finals this week, so ill help you with this right after i finish them. dont worry ,)

I'm confused. Do you want me to copy the Shortcut into:
    C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\GameExplorer\GamesBoxArt

Also the shortcut file on my desktop is the only ccs file source in my computer.

    Try this buddy

    1. Open the registry editor and navigate to the location below and search your game.
      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\GameUX
NOTE: The key values might be different from yours.
    2. Go to C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\GameExplorer\ and find the folder with the same name of the game. "the one you take note above".
    3. Open that folder until you find the game's shortcut. eg. ...\{3F29E50B-538D-48A0-9F69-A632B5AA5308}\PlayTasks\0\
    4. Delete that shortcut, copy the cs shortcut from your desktop and paste it. Then rename it "Play".

Note: Make sure GEF is closed, cause otherwise when u delete the shortcut in the step 4, the game will dissapear from GEF and u have to make all the tutorial again.

    Hope that solves the issue.
