thank you for the reply, unfortunately i am lost now. I tried following the steps but it seems that i was doing the same thing as before. My system boots In UEFI interface(picture) i chose my DVD as primary boot device i do press F10 to select my BIOS boot device and only one line shows up(see picture) I press ENTER and its stars windows installation. When i have to create a partition it still breaks it into 2tb and 746GB (picture) of unallocated space that i cannot use. if i just press next to install windows without creating partitions it installs it and still can use only 2TB.

i've been instaling windows for years and building PC never had such an issue never had a hardware problem now this.... i feel so frustrated i just want to use my 3TB hardrive(((((.

Create a bootable UEFI Windows 10 USB, and boot from that instead.

Afterwards, see if you can do the steps in the clean install tutorial below. In Windows Setup, be sure to delete all partitions on the disk until the disk shows as "unallocated", then select the "unallocated" disk to install Windows on.

Hi Brink,

thanks for a great guide. My MB runs UEFI and I have Win10 installed on a SSD. What other considerations should I have before deciding to convert all my hard drives (and SSDs) from MBR to GPT...? Any words of wisdom?

Thanks in advance.

This is the command I used in command prompt to backup my drive to move it to GPT:

Code:
robocopy C: D: /mir /zb /copyall /dcopy:t /sl /xd "System Volume Information" /xf hiberfil.sys pagefile.sys /xj /r:0 /w:0 /tee /log:robocopylog.txt
.... if you're copying a Windows Vista and up installation, your junctions won't be copied and you'll need to do a repair install once you boot up your new GPT drive.
I'd like to follow this procedure using Robocopy but I'm wondering, if I were to list the junctions using "dir /aL /s" and then recreate them afterwards using "mklink" would this avoid the need to do a repair install? Or is there any other issue/reason? I might be able to create a batch file.
Also, will the registry be happy, considering the new drive will be different hardware (ie a bigger disk, different model)?

Also I presume there is likely to be an issue with files in use, if I'm copying the system drive, so rather than do it offline I wondered about using Volume Shadow Copy, I saw a topic about combining this with Robocopy elsewhere. Any thoughts?
Thanks.

[PS It was Arkhi who I quoted but it doesn't look like he is active anymore, so if ANYONE can answer then please do. Thx]

OK, I partially answered my own query, the bit about using Volume Shadow Copy, combining this with Robocopy, I can confirm it works fine.

I'd still like to know about the other queries I raised though please.

I apologize if this is already been asked (I read about 7 pages and skimmed the rest) Just to give you some background, I have a Alienware M17 R1 (2013) that has 2 storage slots and a Msata. Original configuration was Intel ssd 80gb Msata and 2 WD Black 750gb. I upgraded on Saturday to 1 500GB samsung evo ssd Msata and 2 1TB samsung evo 850. No doing my homework on this, realized Raid0 rule of multiplier. (#drives x lowest size) So I exchanged 500gb for 1TB. That brings us to now. I have 3TB in Raid0 which gives me 1.9TB c: drive and an unallocated sector of 750gb. How can I convert to GPT if the drive has my current OS on it. It will not let me delete OSdrive. A clean install? If so, how do I change drives at Boot prior to install. Thanks in advance.

Hello Deuce, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Since one drive is an OS drive and you have a RAID 0 setup, I would recommend to leave it as MBR.
