Free version of PW does not have the functions it used to, it also doesn't run in PE.

Best free partition manager is Aomei part assistant. Aomei has an excellent part recovery module, converts mbr to gpt and vice versa ( only recommended for non os disks ), and runs beautifully in PE.. I don't think either are intended for use changing os partition style.

    Hey John, :)

I wouldn't recommend to try and convert your OS disk.

This tutorial is more for a data drive that is larger than 2TB to be able to use all if it's space in one GPT partition.
Ok mate will leave as is because PW used to have that function and the install was original set up (not by me) as a GPT disk and I was just curious as to why it was a plain MBR. I did use an ISO from the Microsoft download site for this install to avoid some of the updates but hey was still offered IE8 and IE10!! Plus I don't know why but the BIOS has changed too but I have another thread with that in as I have never had a printer as a boot option

EUFI Jack I thought that it always defaulted disks to GPT??

I am still getting odd things happening with the machine after the three installs in one day and the weirdest thing is the BIOS keeps changing the Boot option and at times going VERY slow on boot plus anything past login and it just dies in it's rear end??

Now I have used Partition Wizard in the past to set the GPT up but it no longer has that function in the free version - but in any case Shawn said it doesn't really need the GPT if I am not using RAID - which I don't understand anyway. Just got a gut feeling something is quite wrong with my BIOS.

    Any ideas mate??

    John,

Since none of your disks are over 2TB, you really don't need to convert a data disk to GPT.

Are you sure you have Windows installed with UEFI?

The disk structure looks more like Legacy BIOS instead.

You can verify using Option Two below.

BIOS Mode - See if Windows Boot in UEFI or Legacy Mode

Agree. It looks like a Legacy installation of Windows 7.

    From my system.

Shawn and Jack I have an awful feeling I may have downloaded the wrong ISO see pic.

Would this explain the MBR and would it explain that apart from the April roll out I cannot update this machine it crashes on each time I try.
