    Hello Suranjit,

Could you post a screenshot of your Disk Management showing your drive layout?

    Suranjit,

I would say that you're most likely going to need to use a 3rd party program like GParted to create the partition from the unallocated space instead.

    Hey Brink,

Thanks for your suggestion. I will try to use GParted. But they mentioned that it's only for x86 machine (for Windows). I don't know whether it will work for my machine or not.

Are there any free 3rd party software available for partitioning? I tried to use some others but those did not help me.

    Thanks,
    Suranjit

    Suranjit,

You might give Partition Wizard a try then.

I used Partition Magic Home Edition. It worked. But now there is a drive in my "Hard Disk Drives [Local Disk (Q)]" but Disk Management does not show anything. Is it a fake? Can I remove that from my Computer views?

And for Shrink related things, if anyone wants to create partitions but don't want the trouble related to Virtual HDs then they should do two things:
    1. Shrink a partition (will create an unallocated space). Can not create volumes (more than 1/2) since it's limited in Windows 7.
    2. Use a third party like Partition Wizard to create a partition from that shrink volume.

    Thanks,
    Suranjit

    Brink,
Here, I have attached two screen shots for my Computer & Disk management. You will see there is a drive "Local Disk (Q)" in the computer but not in Disk Management.

    Thanks,
    Suranjit

Strange. Is it still there after a restart? Does it open?

Yeah, it's still there after restarting. I can not open that one. Says, Q:\ is not accessible. Can not open.
    It's disturbing thing.

Plz let me know if there is any way to remove that.

    Thanks,
    Suranjit
