Hello Quartaela,

Could you post a screenshot of your Disk Management (diskmgmt.msc) window showing the complete drive layout? This will give us a better understading on what the issue may be and you may be able to do.

Quartaela,

I would recommend to do this from within Disk Mangement instead. It would be easier. At boot the driver letters may not always be the same as they are while in Windows 7.

First you would need to shrink the C: volume (partition) by how much you want to have for the new volume later. See the tutorial below for more details on this. This will leave a "Unnallocated Space" to then be able to create a new partition with.

well ok but i can only shrink 256 mgbytes, and sometimes the max. limit reaches to 12 gigabyte but i wanna shrink it nearly 50 giga. so that way doesn't working. and there is not "unallocated space" for create a new partition. _?

You might check the items under step 5 in METHOD ONE to see if they may be the issue. You may have HDD space allocated on the C: drive for these or other items that are preventing you from shrinking it the C: drive since the space is allocated and not free.

warning   Warning
The size of the available shrink space can be restricted by the amount of space currently allocated to on the hard drive for the virtual memory page file, System Protection maximum storage space size, and hibernation files. The location of the files on the hard drive plays a big part here because these files are marked as unmovable, and Disk Management is unable to relocate them. As such, if these unmovable files are located in the middle of the total amount of free space on the disk, then only the amount of free space on the other side (to the right) of these files will actually be available for the new partition. This will result in you showing that you have x amount of free space, but not being able to use it for your partition. The only way around this is to use a 3rd party hard drive partition management program, or setup the partition when installing Vista.

LOL, you needed to reduce the size instead.

A good free program would be Paragon Partition Manager Free Edition.

The free version is for a 32 bit OS. Site seems to suggest a 64 bit OS needs the paid version.
