Hi Brink,

Thank you very much for ur great article,

Here I post some problems I faced and looking forward for ur valuable ideas

currently I'm using a 1TB samsung hard drive and tried to use win 7 and win8 developer preview side by side ( dual boot), bt reading ur articles I came to know in this situation I cant do that as I don't have access to make another primary partition, bt I made unallocated space by using a third party software ( MiniTool partition Wizard ). I am attaching a screen shot of my dist management screen and is there anything to do further ? can I install win 8 by making any difference ?? And I dont want to mix up system files with other files by installing win 8 to D (media) partition

Hello Gro Max, and welcome to Seven Forums.

For that drive layout, I would recommend to extend C: back into the unallocated space to add it all back to C. Afterwards you could use the steps in the tutorial below to Create and dual boot from a Windows 8 VHD saved on your C: drive instead. This way there'll be no need to have a separate partition for Windows 8.

Windows 8 VHD - Create at Boot to Dual Boot with

Hope this helps,

Thank you Shawn and what should I choose from step 5 and 6 on that tutorial wat suits for me?

Isnt it enough 70 GB for VHD thing coz in my c drive there are 70 GB free and that tutorial says to gain 25 GB (ex) for VHD file, because I thout to expand backup partition as I dont have much space on it to save all my downloaded backup softwares and windows backups and system images.

Gro Max, just to let you know - you can install Win8 in a logical partition on this disk because you have the 100MB active partition with the bootmgr. Even if you did not have the 100MB partition, the Win8 installer would grab the first primary partition on the drive and place the bootmgr there. That may look a bit ugly, but it works.

You can also convert your C partition to logical - but you need a bootable tool like Partition Wizard bootable CD.

Thanx for ur Ideas,

I created a VHD and successfully installed win 8, bt it begun to restart twice and third time it doesn't even boot, It stopped at " Verifying DMI pool data..." screen and nothing anything happened.

Then I used UBUNTU live boot CD and deleted VHD file and still the same, then I restarted using restart button on the CPU case and nothing happen, after I booted my PC with windows 7 disk and repaired, in that way I was able to protect my data and now its normally working. wat was the reason for that can you help me? is there anything wrong in my win 8 downloaded .ISO ???

Sorry to see that you have such trouble. But I am afraid I cannot give you a logical explanation.

I myself had strange things happening. But after some experimenting, I got it to work. I guess we are in the trial and error phase - all of us.

Gro Max,

I'm sorry to hear that the VHD didn't work for you as well. I'm afraid that I have no explanation either other than that Windows 8 is still just in the testing phase right now, and that it didn't like something about your system.

Yeh shawn, I think It's some kind of a trouble in the screen resolution coz I am using 19" Monitor and its always restarting when I'm opening a new app, After I realized that tried to reduce the resolution I was unable to do that as its restarting.

I have a doubt in Option ONE, step 7.

If ATM I have 1 primary partition and another recovery and I have to create say 3 more partitions, then how should I go about? Do I first enter the space for the first partition and then will I get the option to again create 2 more partitions by entering the space for 2nd partition and the left over will be 3rd partition?
To create 2 partitions, I can see that first I need to enter the space for 1st partition and the left over will be the 2nd partition.

Is there some other way too, simple like Number of Partitions-5, then enter size of each partition?

Thanks
