Hello soli, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Please post a screenshot showing the full layout of your Disk Management to see what we're dealing with.

Disk Management - Post a Screen Capture Image

Since you only have one disk (hard drive) installed, you will not be able to have separate disks like that. You will only be able to have separate partitions/volumes on the same disk 0.

There's is like that since they have more than one hard drive (disk) installed on the computer. You only have one hard disk, but you could create multiple partitions on it if you like.

Have tried the 2nd OPTION (1st NOT possible)

Hello there, this is my very First post on the forum.

I'm facing the problem of formatting my micro SD card, which I have connected to my laptop using a USB adaptor. Initially it was "write protected", problem that I resolved using the registry editor, but now after attempting to format I get shown the message that "Windows were unable to complete the format".

I could not follow the steps of the First resolving way you have posted, because the option of creating a new simple volume wasn't selectable (neither were any other options about disk volumes when I right-clicked).

I went for the second option, ran the cmd as administrator and typed all the commands up to

create partition primary.

After that It shows the error message that:

"Free space for use was not found. It is possible that there is insufficient Free space for the creation of a partition with the determined size and displacement. Set different prices os size and displacement or do not determine any of them to create a partition of maximum size. It is possible that the creation of partitions was done using the partition format of MBR disk and that there already are 4 primary partitions (So I cannot create more), or 3 primary partitions and one extended (so I can only create logical partitions)."

Just in case, my micro SD has a capacity of 14.7GB (useable), and a Free space of 6.4GB.

How should I move from this point on to eventually format my Micro SD succesfuly??
Thanks for your time!

Here is a screenshot of the disk management window (it is in Greek so I noted three words, don't think It will be a problem as the position of the options is similar)

In that case, see if you may be able to use the "Clean" command on the SD to make it unallocated, then create a new primary partition.

I set about creating a new simple volume on a brand new laptop today. You know - they come with one giant C: drive. We want a nice, manageable C: drive for imaging, about 75 - 80GB, but 100 or 125 would do. Ran up against the "fixed files" limit on shrinking the volume - could only claim 225GB...
