    Shawn,

Windows reinstall doesn't help at all. I do fresh reinstall (load my windows disc remove system reserved and the windows volume, rebuild them and install) and after a few days it just gives me the same error again.

    Devil,

It sounds like that hard drive is almost toast then. You might run a check on it with the free HD Tune 2.55 to see if it passes a error scan.

It would be the same as posted above. It really just depends on how much you want or need on the D: drive though. :)

    Hello everyone. Urgent help needed.

I need to make 4 primary partitions on my 1TB HDD, but cant seem to do so in Win7 (using comp mgmt). The 4th partition always becomes a logical partition. I need 4 primary ones.

Is there a restriction in Win7 that doesnt allow you to make more than 3 primary partitions?

Hello theDarkDisciple, and welcome to Seven Forums.

It's a restriction on the default MBR disk type instead. MBR disks supports up to 3 Primary partitions and 1 Extended partition with up to 128 logical volumes in the extended partition on a disk. They will behave like a primary partition though, and should work fine for you like this. :)

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

    Newbie needing help!!

I need help with my partitioning, I'm a newbie and very confused!
My new laptop's HD (500 GB) was initially partitioned as follows acc to Disk management screen:
Disk 0: 465 GB (left to right)
System 199 MB (system, active primary), C: 450 GB (boot, 1ry), Recovery 13 GB (system, active primary) where's the rest of the 500 GB??
    CD ROM (DVD)

My aim is to have 2 additional partitions each 100 GB to divide my stuff upon (Data, Media), what is the best way to proceed?

What I tried so far and reached dead end:
I performed a Shrink volume on C: by 100 GB, which transformed to unallocated space, then right clicked on that and mage a new simple volume D:
I repeated the above process with another 100 GB, but now when I try to make new simple drive from unallocated space, it gives error that I reached maximum number of volumes, what does that mean?

In act of desperation, I thought to cancel all this and just have one drive C:, so I deleted the new parition D: and the unallocated space, now I have 200 GB of free space (green on right side of C: but now the extend volume is grayed out on drive C: (it was always grayed out even before I started anything).

Can someone please give me some explanation? and tell me step by step how 2 add 2 additional partitions to the main C: partition?
And why do I have only one Disk (Disk 0) while I see some screenshots of also Disk 1, is it different from one laptop model to another?

Any feedback will be highly appreciated.

Could you post a screenshot of your Disk Management so that we are sure of what it's current layout is? :)
