Hello Sknvitty, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Yes, some of these OEMs have a bad habbit of using up all four primary partitions that you can have on a HDD, and not leaving you an option to create another one. Could you post a screenshot of your Disk Management showing all of your drive's layout?

Unfortunately, usually the only way to do this would be to create a set of recovery repair disks from your Lenovo laptop, delete the recovery partition(s) on the HDD until they are unallocated space, then use a free program like Partition Wizard Home Edition to extend the Windows 7 partition into the unallocated space. This is not a recommended option to do though. One mistake, or if something happens to the recovery repair disks, you will have no easy way to reinstall your Windows 7 again.

Let's see what your screenshot looks like first though. :)

Yeah, that's what I was afraid of. You already have 4 primary partitions, so you will not be able to create a new partition without doing the unrecommended method above to create a set of recovery disk and delete the OEM (Lenovo) partitions.

I'd recommend to extend C: back into the unallocated space. If your laptop is able, it would be better to add a 2nd 2.5" HDD if you needed more space or a separate HDD instead.

    Hello Brink,

Thanks a lot for your reply. I was able to extend the C drive back into the unallocated partition.

No way out to partition this then?

The thing i was not comfortable is to leave 500 GIG in C drive itself! can't maneuver the space while saving files!

Is there a way to format everything and start with new partitions?
But I dont have the windows CD with me. I guess 7 has recovery mechanism.

    Once again Thanks
    vitty.

If you run off the Lenovo recovery discs - you could use those to put yor pc back to what they call "factory" condition.

The options on the oem discs vary a bit - but I expect they will allow restoring just the windows partition - and not the oem partitions . Sony has that option, something like this:

Will the EASEUS FREE Partition Manager be of any help?

There is a better, easier way.

If you make any partition changes - you may lose Fkey access to recovery partition - depends how Lenovo set it up. Even if you do, we can probably get it back.

In any event - you must run off Lenovo recovery discs now - that is the first thing that should be done when you get a pc.

Let me know when you have done that and I will write a little app. which will do the job for you in one click.

Creating Lenovo Recovery Media in Windows 7

It will probably take a bit of space - 3 dvd's perhaps.

    Brink,
I think C: should be at least 100GB but depending what is in the extended partition D:, couldn't it be moved to the left and a new drive/partition created within it? You still have the 4 primaries.
