    Hello Brink,

I am new to this, but can you bear with me? I noticed at the start of this tutorial, that Windows Pro is not mentioned. Does this mean that I cannot "Create and Start with Boot a Virtual Hard Drive?"

Hello snap, and welcome to Seven Forums.

    No problem.

You will be able to boot from a VHD with Windows 7 Pro installed on your computer, but you must have Windows 7 Ultimate, Windows 7 Enterprise, Windows 8 Pro, or Windows 8 Enterprise installed on the VHD itself to be able to boot from the VHD. :)

    Brink,

Many thanks for the quick reply. I suppose I am a bit late to try out Windows 8 'Review', but I will give it a try. As my profile says, "Trying to learn windows better", and not just use the pc for gaming, and the occasional website making. With help of course from an editor.

    Thanks again Brink,

I will let you know how I get on with VHD.

    You're most welcome SNAP.

If you like, you could use a 90-day trial evaluation of Windows 8 Enterprise RTM to play with.

    Download Windows 8 Enterprise Evaluation

Thanks for that, will do. Now I can relly see things coming together. I will let you know how I get on with trial version, if things don't go pear-shaped with the pc. The worst that can happen, (I hope) is that I will have to re-load Win 7 and start out all over again.

Looking at your avatar, we could have met somewhere in another time and another world ;-))

If you have the HDD space, you could create a new partition to use to dual boot your Windows 7 with Windows 8. This way you will not lose your Windows 7, or have to start fresh with it later.
This way, all you would have to do is delete Windows 8 when the trial period is over.

That's a better idea. I have about 648Gb in the partition that should be plenty to work with.

Thanks again Brink, You are a Star,

Found the Windows 8 compatability website; well?
    Epson R300, not compatable,
    Logitech, MX-1000 mouse, not listed,
    Logitech, Y-SAE71 keyboard not listed,
I got as far as checking my hard disk and that is not shown? WD 1002FAEX 1TB SATAIII 64MB 6GB/s not coming up on list, as well as the ST3320620 A6, back-up drive. I can understand the R300, that is old, but it still gives great photo prints. Anybody with suggestions, please? I relly don't want to go down the road of renewing most of my gear. Looking at a laptop that will be Windows 8 ready.

    SNAP,

For Windows 8 related issues, it would be best to post them at our sister site Eight Forums instead to get the best help with it. :)
