Make bootable iso from student d/l

I am running 32-bit XP as a virtual machine through Fusion 3. As a student I purchased 64-bit Windows 7 upgrade download and hard disk copy. I am unable to open the disk in XP because it is 64-bit. If I create a new 64-bit virtual machine then the disk boots but then tells me that I must install from a valid existing copy of windows (which makes sense since I only purchase the upgrade, not a full copy?). I didn't get far with the download because of the error you mentioned "We are unable to create or save new files in the folder in which this application was downloaded. Please check the folder properties to make sure that you have security permission on the folder to write files and that the folder is not read-only."

What is the best way to overcome my problem?

If you have the installation disc, install 7 by booting it.

Sorry, I don't have much experience in this area. How do I install 7 by booting from a disk that I am unable to open?

I assume you already created a partition to install 7 onto?

If not, use a free partition manager, this one is good:

When you have done that, restart the pc , you will see white writing on a black screen.

It will say something like

F2 for setup
F11 for boot menu

Your F numbers/keys maybe different. Press whatever key it tells you for boot menu.

A few secs. later a menu pops up.

Put the installation dvd in the drive, arrow down to cdrom drive and press enter.

It will ask again " press any key to boot from cdrom drive".

Press Enter again.

You will see Windows Loading Files and the installation process begins,

When you purchased the 64 bit version, it should have given a choice as to what file to download. You should have selected the option to download the DVD image (the .iso file). From there, you could, in theory, mount the iso image itself to the virtual machine and do a reboot.

If the downloader itself is giving you the error and you haven't even downloaded Win7 yet, then make it's set to save the file in a directory you want it saved in. Are you running the downloader under WinXP in the virtual machine?

I just downloaded it and instead of getting the "Win7-HP-Retail-en-us-x64" I got a "Win7-HP-Retail-en-us-x86"

Are the files the same, or did they change them?

When I am entering the Code into the "elevated command prompt" and I press enter, I get
"ERROR: Unable to create file "C:\7.iso" of 2593587200 bytes
Error 5: Access is denied."

Am I messing something up? and how do i fix it. thanks!

Yeah,

This is starting to annoy me greatly, I am only try to get a bootable copy of it because I keep on getting an error when I try to install it normally. I click on the install now and it turns into a blue screen for around 5 seconds that says "Setup is copying temporary files" and then I get the the message & error code "Windows was unable to create a required Installation folder. Error Code: 0x80070005"
You would not happen to know how to fix that problem?
