another thing, but expandedSetup folder on my desktop is only 205MB. setup2.box is 160mb and setup1.box is 2.66GB. Did my download complete all the way?

Accordning to OSCDIMG, it wrote 872 files in 200 directories.

its not working for me it says oscdimg.exe is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file
    Move/copy oscdimg.exe into the C:\windows\Sytem32 folder

    as in the original tutorial.

This has got be the most ridiculous thing ever. I should have just bought the upgrade disc. Digital River should have at least told us that this would be an .exe and we would have to hack it to get it to work the way it should.

Yes, this is an upgrade software, but you can do a clean install over any previous version of Vista or Windows 7 as long as you have Vista or Windows 7 installed on the drive you’re trying to use the upgrade software for.
Let me repeat. If you bought a new blank hard drive, or formatted one of your hard drives, and are trying to install this UPGRADE version of Windows 7, regardless of whether you use the upgrade or clean install method, it WILL NOT WORK. You may have no issue installing Windows 7 on the drive, but you’ll have a problem with the activation key.
So, you MUST have a working or non-working copy of Vista (and I assume XP works too) on this hard drive…again, DO NOT format the drive…let Windows 7 take care of that for you during the installation.
    FRAC!

I thought the pre-release details said the pre-existing Vista installation could be on a different partition, or different physical hard disk, or even on a USB drive!
This little wrinkle means extra work for me, cloning my existing Vista over to the new drive I'm planning to use for W7. My Vista drive is a WD64000AAKS that is ultra noisy. Sounds like sleigh bells. Every time I use the computer I look over my shoulder expecting to see a miniature santa and eight tiny reindeer. I'm moving to a very quiet WD4000AAKS.

    Drat the luck.

these are the type of differences between individual's PCs that crate many of these errors...

for exmpale I did NOT need to run the command prompt as an administrator, but apparently some have to.

Well I burned the ISO (got that far) but it's not bootable. It says it can't find the boot.wim file. I tried it within Vista and after a restart of the computer. I noticed that the ISO file and the disc that I burned with Nero is only 205MB though. Did I do something wrong?
you definitely did something wrong. The image file that gets created, called '7.iso' is a single file that is 3.09GB in size.

If you are rebooting and nothing happens with a properly burned disc as well as having the cd as priority in bios, try mashing all you F# keys from start up till it lets you pick which drive to boot from. f4-f8 i think
