When you run the exe from Digital River it will start extracting the files into expandedSetup. If you downloaded 64-bit and you are doing it on a 32-bit system it will eventually give you an error, but leave expandedSetup.

If you downloaded 32-bit it will extract with no errors and pop open a window to begin setup, but simply exit by clicking the X in the upper-right, and expandedSetup will remain.

    oscdimg -bC:\expandedSetup\boot\etfsboot.com -h -u2 -m -lWIN_EN_DVD C:\expandedSetup\ C:\7.iso

    works now.
worked for me too - fixed my error:

ERROR: Could not delete existing file "ûbC:\expandedSetup\boot\etfsboot.com"
Error 123: The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect.
    Thanks!!

THANKS ALOT SIW2:) This has worked for me and I am now using Windows 7 Professional! You just have to follow the instructions and it will make an ISO file and from there you can make a bootable disk using the software links provided that will work. Thanks again.

Yes many thanks again to SIW2! Everybody give the man a rep (click on the scales in upper right) as he deserves it!

These instructions work like a charm and allow you to turn your weird .box and .exe files into a bootable install DVD.

It is places like this on the net that both pros and noobs can come to to gain knowledge!

Also check out Paul Thurrot's trick to do a clean install using the upgrade disk.
Many have already said it works like a charm! I will try it Tuesday afternoon! Let you know how it goes for me!

    Hi Darryl,

    Thanks for reporting back.

I am pleased there are a lot of happy people running 7 as a result.

If you find it tells you the product key is not valid ,

merge this .reg file and OK the warning:

    SIW2_MBI.reg

Then open an elevated cmd prompt and Type:

    slmgr /rearm

    Then press enter.

    Reboot back into 7.

Press the Windows and Pause/Break keys together.

    The system window pops up.

At the bottom , click Change Product Key, type your key, Activate it.

    Have Fun.

You beat me again SIW As I have been reading todays' comments I was about to post this to help things go over easily

...actually I am half tempted to drop out of this upgrade mess for the time being. The clean install thread Brink made is virtually at war within itself. People keep saying that you can install upgrades to virgin discs while others insist this isn't possible while OTHERS insist that the latter is true but it isn't a big deal because of what Paulm Thurott posted while others are now harping about the legtimacy of it.

It is just a mess...a mess...

    LOL Zi,

Don't drop out - keep manning the fort

There were similar issues with Vista clean install from upgrade, if you recall - it's part of the fun - keeps us busy.

Hopefully they don't take the battle over here...that exact post above is what they are calling "illegitimate"

...even after posting yesterday about how I CALLED MS AND THEY WALKED ME THROUGH THOSE STEPS EXACTLY!!!
