This is so frustrating but I'm stuck on the very first step. I've bolded my noob problem:

    1. Rt click each file, Properties > Unblock>Apply>OK.

That "Unblock" option does not exist when I right-click on these three files. I don't see anything like it. I'm running 32-bit Vista Home and I am the administrator (and only) account.

I'm obviously doing something very simple wrong, here...

That's Ok - it is only if it is blocked - just continue.

hi I have successfully done everything except the iso is in a zip file. is it suppose to be like this or did I do something wrong?

I also tried to unzip it to found out that it is the exact similar of everything in the expandedSetup

I think you will find it is an.iso . If you have 7zip program installed, it puts a little icon on - so you might think it is a zip.

It is in fact an .iso

Inside the bootable .iso are the installation files, of course.

If you go to folder options and make sure file extensions are showing - you will see the three letters .iso at the end.

Burn it to dvd with an isoburner.

    6gb?

It should be around the same as the ExpandedSetup folder.

Have a look at the size of the folder and see if you somehow got one inside the other.

In the folder , you should have these:

If yours is different - you can post a screenshot - if you like.

You may find this is an easier way to make the .iso - won't make a difference to the size - but you may prefer the method:

indeed, my folder looks exactly like that and my expandedSetup folder is 3 gig

I'm using vista business 32 bit for creating this dvd.

i'll try the other method you posted and report back my findings :)

That appears to have worked. Created a 3GB iso and burned it too. The machine it will go on doesn't arrive until tuesday, so i guess i can't test it until then. Thanks for your help, here's hoping it works.

Microsoft’s ISO Image for Windows 7 Now Available

    - Seriously why isn't this at the top of the page? Ok I'm a bit stupid for going through all the steps one by one, but that whole note at the end pretty much says we don't have to do the work around, we can just download it directly now.
