Thank you, but that's ok. Just the tutorial being able to help is thanks enough. :)

Hi, after having read your tutorial and your links to the other threads, I still have a question about the qualified previous version of windows. Everything refers to having XP or Vista but I can't find an answer to my particular setup.

I have an Asus laptop that came factory installed with Win7 Home Premium 64 bit. I later bought an upgrade copy to Win7 Ulimate and used it on said laptop. The old HDD is failing and I now want to install a SSD in the laptop and do a fresh install of Win7 Ultimate 64 bit. The laptop still has the Certificate of Authenticity for Home Prem sticker, that has the product key, on the bottom but no restore disks. I still have the ultimate upgrade disks with the product key.

So, my question is, is this a legal setup to use the steps in your tutorial? I just want to make sure its legal for me to do.

Thanks for any help you can give and for creating the thread in the first place.

Hello foxmetal, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Yes, you will be able to legally do a clean install with your Windows 7 Ultimate since you do own a qualifying Windows 7 Home Premium that you originally upgraded from. :)

Thank you very much for the quick response. I had a feeling that I would be alright, but I wanted to make sure.

Curious, will this method also work with a Win 8 Upgrade DVD?

    Hello Gary,

It should, but I would recommend using the tutorial below for Windows 8 instead. :)
