Windows 7: Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool

If I manually select it the screen says

"Remove disks and other media
Press any key to restart"

If I do that then it simply boots back into the Windows 7 OS normally.

Method 1 was what I was trying to do in the 1st place and it doesn't work with OEM OS's. I'll have to download a regular OS from Technet Plus and use that. I was hoping to use the OEM OS simply because it would save a lot of work afterwards installing various Dell utilities and help files etc.

Thanks for all the help.

I give up, this really isn't my day/week/whatever. Now the Windows USB/DVD Tool is saying that my Technet downloads are not valid ISO files.

Try making a bootable thumb drive out of those ISOs.

Now here's a question I didn't consider. Are you sure those ISOs are legitimate? Could you have a corrupted download?

I'm trying the downloads again. I was using Firefox so hence the regular downloader. This time I'm using IE8 which allows the MSFT Akamai downloader to be used which verifies downloads/checksums etc. once they are done, hopefully it will work this time.
I noticed that previous downloads for other OS's were seen OK by the tool, so it may simply be that using IE8 in this instance is all that's need. Hopefully.

This is a darn nuisance because I will now have to manually install a lot of the Dell crap that unfortunately is necessary if one needs service from them...ever. Let's hope that doesn't happen.

Of course if I just sprung for an external CD/DVD drive, all this would have been unnecessary.....let's not even go there...LOL !!!

In case anyone is having trouble with the MS tool - this works well.

You can use iso or installation dvd as the source.

Thanks. I will check that later. At the moment it looks like something is corrupting my Technet downloads, because the USB Tool wont recognize even the MSFT Akamai downloaded ISO's done today. But it does recognize old ones that I have stored, unfortunately for the wrong OS.

Another possibility, thanks.

I'll look into all these, but I really should be looking at the only 2 options.

1. Hurl the blasted Notebook to its doom from my highrise balcony...always wanted to do that, but then I'd be without my spare machine.

2. Buy an external CD/DVD Burner, something I should have done ages ago.

Thanks once again.
