    Hi,

I just wanted to thank you very much for this tutorial, it's great !!! :)

Due to a malware corruption, I got rid of the malware but a lots of services were not installed anymore, including firewall, windows update, dcom etc ...

I tried so many utilities like Fix-it, sfc, MsDart etc ... nothing was able to restore these services...

    I Have more than 200 installed softwares and I couldn't even think about a complete erase/install ...

This Repair/Update CD saves my (professional) life, it's just fantastic !!!!

    Thanks again !!

Hello all, I've just tried to do an 'In place Upgrade - Reinstall fix' for Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit (x86) and it keeps throwing me out with the following message - 'Setup can't continue. Restart the computer and restart Setup. When prompted, try getting the latest updates.' Now believe me when I tell say I have done EVERYTHING else to the letter by the book. Clean boot, No Antivirus/malware... even tried the cversion trick! Still, it copies all files 100% then says the above message! Please advise as I'm about to have a nervous breakdown! Oh btw, the reason I'm trying to do all this, Windows Update is not working - not downloading updates and I've tried all the FixIt programs, Service Pack Upd checker - I could go on and on...

    Thanx in advance

    Hello Tim,

Just to double check, but have you also tried OPTION TWO and/or OPTION THREE in the tutorial below to reset Windows Update? If not, hopefully it'll help avoid a repair install.
For the repair install issue, do you have an active internet connection at boot for it to be able to check for updates at step 9 in the tutorial on the first page?

Hiya, it didn't work, followed the procedure to the letter (option 3) and rebooted. Went onto Windows Update - Clicked on Check for Updates - got error 80073712...

Something I thought you'd find interesting, numerous times I've opened an elevated command prompt an ran SFC /SCANNOW but it always comes up with 'Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation'... I'm gettin a headache!

    Tim,

I hate to say it, but you may be better off doing a clean install of Windows 7 to start fresh and error free again.

Hmmmmm... I'm thinking the same thing meself! A friend called me up about an hr ago, he suggested something I never thought of - thinking out of the box - he said why not manually download separate updates and install separately - that way any holes will be patched and be up to date!? I like the idea but I wouldn't know where to find them - he said I'd have to look under the administration area of windows update online? Any ideas?

    Thanx

The only problem is that you would need to know which updates to search for to download for your system, but the Microsoft link below will help show you how to.

How to download updates that include drivers and hotfixes from the Windows Update Catalog
