    Hello Marcel,

Your programs and their shortcuts should remain intact as they were for you to run them as usual. Any programs that did not make it through the repair install would need to be reinstalled.

You can't run any programs (unless stand alone .exe program) from within the windows.old folder. Before deleting the windows.old folder, be sure to check for anything (files, data, etc....) that you may need to copy back from it first though.

    Hope this helps, :)

    Hi Shawn,

Thx for the prompt reply. My windows 7 disc doesn't have SP1 but I'm fully up to date with the SP1 currently so obviously it cannot Upgrade. If I download the SP1 ISO for Win 7 64-bit Pro will I then be able to Upgrade Repair keeping all my Programs etc as the version will not be newer than what I currently have. I just cannot do a clean install and reload all my Work Software thats all...

Please advise so I can start downloading the SP1 ISO off the Dell link you posted.

    Thanks alot!

    Marcel,

Yes, if you download the Windows 7 w/SP1 ISO from step 4 or 5 in the tutorial, you should be able to. :)

    Thanks

    Thanks Brink,
I just wanted to say I had some system file error that couldn't be repaired with sfc /scannow. I tried your repair for three days. Each time I got hung on the compatibility check. I let it run for like 30 minutes each time. I googled numerous times, all three days, on compatibility check hanging up and after a lot of people saying stuff like "just do a clean install" I found someone that said they just let it run. Well after 10 hours it was done. I was amazed. I've been having system problems I couldn't figure out in CBT mini dump, but it's all straight now, so thanks. I guess this letter is to say that if you get hung up in compatibility check, just leave it. It really took 2 hours to get past the check, and 8 hours to re-install. It was years of stuff piled on top of itself that took so long. Something over a million files moved with an old pentiumD dual core, but it worked! Take Care, and Thanks again!

    Repair install problem.

    Hi.
This is my first post so hello all and please be gentle.
I'm running Win 7 SP1 64bit and having problems with System restore and Backup. Basically they aren't working and I've being trying every method I've found to fix it.
Today I decided to do a repair install but my Windows 7 installation was later updated to SP1 so the original installation disc won't work. I followed Brinks tutorial and went ahead and downloaded the SP1 ISO and extracted it to a slave drive and ran the Setup.exe. Unfortunately though I got the message confirming that SP1 was already installed and I can't proceed any further. What have I missed or done wrong?
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thank you.

Hello Paullus, and welcome to Seven Forums. :)

Did you download and use the Windows 7 Home Premium (x64) X17-58997 ISO file from Digital River in the blue Note box under step 4?

    No I dowloaded 101119-1850_Update_Sp_Wave1-GRMSP1.1_DVD.

But I'm now downloading the one you have indicated.

Hopefully I've got the right one now.
    Thanks very much.
    Regards,
