John,

Your Disk Management shows that you have two drives marked as active.

If you disconnect "Disk 0" and "Disk 2", are you still able to boot from "Disk 1"?

If not, then boot from your installation media and run a startup repair to see if it may allow you to boot from "Disk 1" afterwards.

When you are able to boot from "Disk 1", connect the other disks back while Windows is running, and mark the D: drive "inactive".

After looking D is using 30mb of space, you say it has some music on it :/
Checking my system reserved is also using 30mb in space well it does make a sweet sound when my machine boots properly
You must of at some point transferred your system reserved to your C drive via Wolfgang's tutorial ?

Ok Shawn I will try unhooking the large drive and the image one and boot up I am just thinking maybe the large drive is messing with the posting stuff - I very rarely use it and yes Ken I did use that tutorial by some one re transferring data for a smallish SSD to a large drive but truly I think I did it wrong.

There is just one thing that bothers me though Shawn and that is losing WLM sign in as it is real pain to set up unless I just uninstall it and re install all over it would not be a problem more of a time waster.

Update drives removed booted faster than it has fora long time so looks like the large drive is interfering in some way maybe even my posting problem.

Am going to mark it inactive or even wipe it later.

Well have done what you said mate and it boots twice as fast before I unplugged that large drive.

Now I took another look at the contents and it looks as if what I thought was just music was in fact an old image dated 2011 and some 2009 and worse still an image of my sons large machine which he doesn't use anymore (iPad freak now)

Thanks for your patience yet again and Ken you too I just hope it is the reason behind those posting problems I was having .

Still it will get wiped later and I shall leave it empty for a while as I manage on a 256GB SSD right now But I intend putting s lot of music on it at some stage.

Thank you for this very detailed tutorial.

However, I believe something crucial is missing!

It should be stated VERY CLEARLY that this process cannot be undone, that once you went on ahead and executed this "repair install", there's no going back to what you had before!

(It's true that one could have made a system image before he started this process, but it is not mentioned anywhere in this extremely detailed tutorial, that one should!)

Hello Ommadawn, and welcome to Seven Forums.

It's usually understood that you can't undo a Windows installation once finished, but if it should fail, Windows does automatically revert back to your previous installation. You will also have a C:\Windows.old folder after the repair install that contains a copy of your previous installation.

You should always keep backups of anything that you do not want to lose as a standard practice.

The note and tip boxes at the top of the tutorial do cover what will be affected by a repair install (aka: in-place upgrade).
