I'm sorry to hear that John. I was hoping you would have avoided a clean install.

Yes mate it just dropped another reply but I am still trying to delete programs I hardly use and get back to the basic stuff so I am not ready to give in to the beast yet.

But hey look again you have been so patient with me and thanks for the support always quick and always pleasant

Hi Brink,

Just to update the thread:

I managed to solve the issue via a repair install. Here's what I did:

1. I downloaded the Dutch Professional 64 bit .iso, as it was the only one I could find.
2. I extracted it using 7zip.
3. I removed the ei.cfg (which contains the info as to what version is supposed to be installed)
4. I followed the guide posted in this thread, also choosing my version (ultimate)
5. After getting up in the morning, and activating again, everything worked well.

Stubborn thing. I'm just at a loss for what could be causing that.

I feel really stupid now, I have done everything just like instructed in the tutorial, googled the issue hundred times and I can't seem to find the answer. I AM running setup.exe in compatibility mode and I still get the error message that Win 7 Professional can't be upgraded to Win 7 Professional. What am I doing wrong? Or could it be that the compatibility mode is somehow not working? I would be really grateful for any suggestions )

P.S. I'm using the disk X15-65813. Experimentally I also tried X17-59885 and X17-24289, same results.

Hello xdya,

Are you getting the "current installation is newer than your installation media" type error?

This is often the case since Windows Updates causes the current installation to be newer than the installation media. If this is the case, then you will not be able to do a repair install.

Hey, thanks for the response. It's in German, it says word for word that "Windows 7 Professional can't be upgraded to Windows 7 Professional". And after that that I can do a new install but I'll lose everything. Only this, there is no current installation is newer stuff but I'm afraid that in the end I still can't do a repair install

In that case, the installation media will also need to be for the same language that you currently have installed as well.

Is the installation media 64-bit like your current installation, and not 32-bit (x86)?
