This can be done even after the Windows is re-installed. unless the network drivers are missing.
So, how to ensure the Internet is working?

You could, but it would be better to have them available before in case you do need to install the network driver to be able to connect to the internet.

Which could be another drive within your PC or an external drive i.e. it doesn't have to be a network location.

Though in my experience W7 will most likely have a built-in driver that will work with your NIC, though it might not be THE BEST or latest one available.

OK, I went to the Intel website and downloaded the latest (v19.5) Network Adapter Driver for Windows 7 PROWin32.exe file (the 64Bit is also available) and I even tried it. Everything went OK. I have a new set of drivers now and will be able to use it later.
My system is currently sluggish, moving in slow motion..

You may have Windows Updates installing in the background. Double check to make sure that they are all installed and then see how your system is performing. Hopefully well.

I have already install the latest updates - it took three reboots!

If it was sluggish before doing a repair install, then you may need to do a clean install instead. Otherwise, you could go through the items below to see if it may help with performance.

I found that interesting re the driver back up stuff so is there any particular software besides Driver Reviver available to do that because all I ever do is image weekly and to pick the eyes out of one for drivers would be tedious.
I say that only because if I were using the image to reinstall with because of some major infection I couldn't get rid of I would be loathe to use the image.

DoubleDriver seems to do a very nice job:

BooZet Freeware

Just "Scan current system" and it defaults to non-MS drivers checked. Backup Now to anywhere you'd like.

Ok Max will try it out the Driver Reviver was pay for as far as I could see and with five machines is a costly exercise unless it is portable.
