ok ty im getting a 64 gb flash drive but the iso disk is only about 8gb so i think that's enough space. the other problem is im unsure on a factory reset or windows reinstall, someone told me with a factory reset i wouldn't need to do a windows repair but i know all my files and programs would be gone.

Kenny,

The chances of a repair install working today is slim since it's impossible to get an ISO that is at least the same or newer version than the Windows 7 you currently have installed.

It may be best to plan on doing a clean install of factory reset instead.

Is there any way of doing a repair install when one can't access the 7 installation - it keeps going into Advanced Recovery Options only - & System Restore wont work?
I have the DVD all ready to go but seemingly the only route is to wipe and start over again.
I have access to the partition from my Win 10 OS's - so near, yet so far.
This happened yesterday and I'm not quite sure why but think it was when I may have mistakenly installed the wrong driver for something.
Advanced Boot Options: System Restore finds the OS and the restore points but fails with this error, reading in part:
The inst. @ 0xfba6ca53 referenced memory at 0x0021cd49. The memory could not be read.
Or words to that effect.

Hello Peter,

I'm afraid that a repair install can only be done from with the OS you want to repair.

Are you able to boot into safe mode to hopefully be able to uninstall the driver or repair install from?

Thanks for answering. That's the problem Shawn. I can't enter any Safe Mode option, it insists on going into Advanced Repair Options, no matter what I do.
The frustrating thing is that in there the System Restore sees the restore points, but errors out.

It may be time to consider a clean install instead.

Yes I think so but before I do that I'm delving into the C: drive from my Win 10 and backing up docs downloads and suchlike....am wondering if it's possible to back up my emails as well (in Vista Windows Mail hacked for use with 7) ?

The other option I have yet to try is to install Acronis on this Win 10 (L:) and see if it can restore C: using it's backups.........do you think that may be possible?....if I can remember which storage drive I used for that particular backup of course.....

I don't use Acronis to know, but it may worth a try. I would recommend to back up anything on W10 and W7 first to be safe though.

Are your emails set to keep a copy on the email servers? If so, they'll automatically be downloaded back.

No they're not. I wondered if there was a way of retrieving mail from the User's App Data WM folder, that's all.
Acronis has been doing its thing for about an hour now and have no idea how much longer it's going to hog the machine......on my iPad a.t.m.
Keeping fingers x'd for Acronis.......
