As a test, temporarily disconnect all other hard drives than the one you are installing Windows on.

Next, boot from the installation DVD, delete all partitions on the Windows disk until it's "unallocated", then see if you're able to clean install now.

You can do so at step 8 below while doing a clean install.

Mate just as Brink says it is asking for confusdion to have more than the one drive hooked up and the clean process will do just that leave you with unallocated space to install on you don't need to do anything with the partitions. Mind you get any data on that drive before you do this because it will all be gone when done.

The hing is you will need to clean the drive via another machine unless Brink has an alternative to doing that because the clean process runs in Windows and obviously Windows cannot delte - clean itself.

Thanks guys. Unplugging all but one drive did the trick. I successfully installed Windows 7 on my HDD. I don't know why, but it worked. Now, to install all my programs.

Great news.

The installation may have been trying to use or create a partition on one of the other drives causing the error.

As Brink says mate good news and something to remember for the future as I never install with more than the drive the install is going onto.

Repair Install from repair/CD

Hi all.
I'm looking for a way to make a repair install and will make a post about my issues later.
But because of the beneath listing I'm not sure what it fully means!!!
Code:
  • You can only do a repair install from within Windows 7.
  • You cannot do a repair install at boot or in Safe Mode.
In my case I can't start Windows fully up.
When it comes to the [Starting Windows] graphic screen it here after changes to dark and a more old fashion screen with a text-mode white [Loading Files]-bar and then tries to repair.
Will I somehow be able to do a Repair Install in this case or is it not Windows7-enough when it can't start.
{The same happens when trying [Safe mode]}
Only [Cmd]-prompt gives limited possibilities for commands/programs.

I'm sorry for my version of English but I think I will get more understandings like this instead of my mother tongue 😆

Thanks for reading so far.

Hello Maricha, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Basically, it means that you will only be able to perform a repair install from within your running Windows since this is an in-place upgrade.

Thanks Brink.
Just to exclude thoughts based on might-be misunderstandings;
1) it means that repair install can only happen from a fully running Windows7's Control Panel?
2) or also from a bootable windows 7 dsk or likewise as it's still Windows 7, technically?

Sorry if it's already stated somewhere here - but as a second language I just want to be sure I understand it right!

Thx again. You help a lot of ppl
