So programs wont be deleted?
The reason for doing this is that sfc cannow found some corrupted file..by doing this will that problem be corrected?
after the upgrade is complete,I will let u know..
I have this same problem (being told "32-bit Windows cannot be upgraded to a 64-bit version of Windows", etc). The disk I am using for the Repair Install is exactly the same disk as I used when I first installed Windows 7 (fresh install to new partition, replacing Vista 64).
What do you mean by 'downloading a new copy of the installation disk'? I bought it from a UK retailer.
(As an alternative - I think I'm the trouble I'm experiencing originates with my video card or drivers - can you point me to a good thread on dealing with that sort of problem?)
Hello Faithless,
What type of Windows 7 installation disk is it? (ex: Retail, OEM, custom,....)
Not all OEM Windows 7 installation discs will be able to be used to a repair install. Most will only let you do a clean reinstall instead.
Is there anyway to initiate the Upgrade without Windows Started? I did a RAID Control Driver upgrade last night (along with the latest two Win7 System/Security Updates and am getting a corrupt file - Win7 U x64 on my box won't start and says there is an error it can't repair automatically (a corrupt file). However auto-repair run from the DVD (if I boot from that) says there is nothing wrong and all is good - but Windows still won't start either normally or in safe mode. Both repairs also say there are no system restore points, although system restore is (or was) running and was creating restore points...
At this stage it looks like my best option is to do this upgrade procedure to refresh my Win7 install (or try and roll back the 3 updates one at a time using the command prompt package function)... ...but if the Upgrade is the option it won't initiate unless you have Windows running to start with...
(Note my RAID config is all online, active, integrity okay, etc - it did need to verify the volume containing the Win7 install on first restart but otherwise is all green and okay hardware wise).
Appreciate any thoughts,
TIA.
