    Hello dmxdex,

If you have a Windows 7 installation disc without SP1 included and have Windows 7 SP1 with SP1 currently installed, then you would need to use step 5 instead of 4 for this to work.

    OR

If you like, you could download a 32-bit or 64-bit Windows 7 with SP1 ISO file for your currently installed 32-bit or 64-bit Windows 7 with SP1 edition to use to do a repair install with using the better step 4 option above instead.

Official Windows 7 SP1 ISO from Digital River « My Digital Life

You could use the Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool to create a bootable DVD or USB from the download ISO file.

I did this but it just made my windows much worse. Games stuttering all the time, windows unresponsive.

Feel annoyed that i have to reinstall.

My windows came without SPI 1. I downloaded it via windows update. Not sure if i maybe did it all wrong. I did the slipstream with sp1 put it onto my memory stick set the compatability to vista service pack 2 and did the upgrade.

I did it all via flash drive.

I have my windows 7 on my flash drive so i didnt need to get hold of it.

    dmxdex,

Unfortunately, a repair install is not always able to repair the Windows installation. That's the main reason that I always recommend to backup anything that you do not want to lose before doing this to be extra safe in case it doesn't help.

I'm sorry to hear that it didn't work for you.

Hi, I've got to say this thread is a great resource and was wondering if I could get some further help. I have a couple of PCs here on which the TCPIP has been trashed by something nasty. The nasty has gone and evereything else is working so I don't want to reinstall the PCs. Your method has worked fine on one of the PCs ( W7 Home Premium, no SP, x64) but the other is Win7 Pro x86 and I have tried with SP1 and also after uninstalling the service pack and I always get "cannot upgrade from windows 7 professional to windows 7 professional" and it stops. Is there anything I can do further?

Hello Vimto, and welcome to Seven Forums.

What type (ex: retail, OEM, student, Anytime Upgrade, etc....) is the Windows 7 Pro on the installation DVD and currently installed?

    Hi.

In the end I managed to fix using combofix (which was giving problems before and suddenly started working) and the resetting the TCPIP stack.

For reference the install was OEM (tried with both SP1 installed and uninstalled) and the disks I tried to apply were Retail without SP1 and OEM with SP1, which were the only ones I had available.

    @Brink:
I recommend to remove completely Daemon Tools and SPTD driver before to upgrade Windows 7. In my case it happened a SPTD driver corruption after Windows 7 Repair Install.

Fortunately this workaround helped me to solve this issue:
DuplexSecure-Forum - View Single Post - Problems installing SPTD after WIN 7 Upgrade

As it appears when I first removed the SPTD key, the Cfg and Enum branches weren't properly removed and/or were corrupted.

In an attempt to solve this I removed the Enum and Cfg branches first (changing permissions as needed) then removed the SPTD key (changing permissions as needed) and rebooted the system.

I then ran the SPTD standalone installer and on the next reboot I had no error report in the event viewer and the SPTD standalone installer now detects SPTD V1.78 in the system.

Apparently it's important to first remove the Cfg and Enum branches before removing the SPTD key to repair SPTD after a Win 7 upgrade.
I suggest a new note on first post.

Hello Saluzzino, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Thank you for posting with your findings from your results. Did you get any type of compatibility issue at step 9 for these items?

I reinstalled Windows 7 because of random errors concerning windows backup and problem reporting modules in control panel.

However, I got one compatibility issue concerning a virtual SCSI driver installed by Daemon Tools. So, after a complete uninstall of DT, I removed all pending SCSI drivers (more than one) using DevManView. In this way I completed the upgrade without problems. Now I don't have random error messages in some control panel areas as before.

    Of course I had to:
    - reinstall a printer driver, because bi-directional support option was corrupted after upgrade;
    - reinstall Avira Free Antivirus 12, because all security options were corrupted (no possibility to change checkboxes as you want also in this case).
    - reinstall Jdownloader, because the auto-update feature didn't work as before.
    - reinstall SPTD driver (as written above) and Daemon Tools.
    - reinstall all Windows updates after SP1, as usual.
    - recreate all my customized elevated program shortucts.

I hope I make myself clear.
