    Thanks for your response Brink.
No - definitely not because I didn't have a Retail Windows 7 with SP 1 version.

I followed these instructions from your Warning section:
You can do a repair install on a factory OEM installation with the latest official Windows 7 with SP1 ISO file here: Windows 7 SP1 ISO from Digital River « My Digital Life, and use Windows 7 USB-DVD Download Tool to create a bootable DVD or USB flash drive with the ISO to do the repair install with.
From this I created a bootable DVD and followed through to Step 5.
    DocM,

That's for a "retail" type installation media, and not what you currently have installed instead. You would need to use step 4 instead of step 5. :)

Hello Santelm, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Yep, the tutorial is fully up to date and still applies.

You could use the Windows 7 x64 SP1 ISO from Digital River to do a repair install using step 4 if you like. :)

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn
Well it seems to have worked fine for me mate using step 4 (using my Windows 7 HP 64bit installation disk without SP1).. I had to uninstall my Anti-Virus (Microsoft Security Essentials) before I could reinstall Windows 7 64bit Service pack 1 and then reinstall it (the anti-virus) again afterwards, other than that,no problems at all.. God Bless America.. thanks Shawn.... SanTelm

So I tried this with a win 7 pro retail cd no sp1. I de-installed sp1 first then did the process. It comes up with a message that states you can't upgrade win 7 pro to win 7 pro and has me either go back to do a full install or click ok to cancel. Thoughts? I followed every step to the letter near as I can tell.

    Thanks,
    Chuck

    Hello Chuck,

You might also consider leaving SP1 installed, and use step 4 with a Digital River ISO w/SP1 that the same as what you have installed. :)

    Hi Brink,
Is it possible to use a retail Windows 7 SP1 installation disc to do a repair install on a currently installed OEM Windows 7 (SP1 NOT installed); and use the Product Key on the bottom of my laptop?
I had no W7 installation disk with my HP laptop, so will use the Digital River download ISO to make a disk.
Also, I don't see an equivalent Vista thread for this. My wifes lappy has OEM Vista Home basic on it (no service pack). I have a full retail Vista SP2 Ultimate DVD; can this be used to do a repair install on her laptop, and use her Product key?

    Thanks
    Kevin
