    Hi Brink,
    thanks for yr response :)
This issued happened in early June, but due to work i was only able to start troubleshooting now. Therefore when i looked at the restore points,i only see two restore points.
So the only way now is to reformat?

Side qn,if i were to reformat, can i use the iso image?how abt licensing issues?

    Tanw,

Since your Windows 7 came preinstalled, you could do a factory recovery/restore instead to reinstall Windows 7 back to factory conditions. What brand is your computer? I'll see if I may be able to find the instructions for how to do so for that brand. :)

    Hi Brink,
Mine is Asus.I ever pressed F5 to boot into recovery console to take a look.Is it System Image Recovery?
What i am unsure is as I have two partitions(C as the OS,D for data),once i reformat,is the D drive going to be formatted as well?

No, this is not a System Image Recovery that restores your system back to a system image that you created at some earlier point in time. Instead, this is using the factory recovery partition to reinstall and restore Windows 7 back to factory conditions like when it was first turned on.

    Repair Install

I am new to forum use, so please forgive me if I have posted this twice, or posted in the wrong place. I am trying to follow tutorial for repair. I have Win 7 Pro 64 bit and disk is from system manufacturer without SP 1. Machine is upgraded to SP! so I followed instructions to download iso and burned image to DVD. Installation seems to run fine until Compatibility Mode check when I get the following message: "To upgrade from one edition of Windows 7 to another edition of Windows 7, use Windows Anytime Upgrade. Cancel the upgrade, open the Start menu, and search for Windows Anytime Upgrade." I checked that out and it is for purchasing an upgrade. I don't want to upgrade, I think I have corrupted files and want to do a repair. Any help?

    Hello Joe,

Did you download and create a Win 7 Pro 64-bit w/SP1 DVD to use along with step 5?

Since you say you may have corrupted files, you might see if running a SFC /SCANNOW command may be able to hopefully avoid having to do a repair install.

I downloaded the iso and the Windows 7 USB-DVD Download Tool and burned the image to a DVD. The DVD contains the following Folders Boot; efi; sources; support; upgrade and the following files autorun.inf; bootmgr; bootmgr.efi; desktop.ini and setup.exe I use Norton 360 and did turn firewall and antivirus off.

I have run the SCF/scannnow and it reports no problems. If i try to put the computer in sleep, or it goes into sleep on it own because it is set to do so, it will not wake. I have turned sleep off entirely and set display shut down to never and if I leave the computer running, when I return all looks normal, but mouse and keyboard will not function. I can only get out by hard boot. There are other issues, too.

I don't think a repair install is going to fix that since most of your settings will carry over. You might consider doing a clean install instead.
