Repair Install

Does the custom install stil have to be done within Windows ?

I have an issue with my graphics drivers and was wondering if a repair install might fix it (if that's a likely outcome).

When I boot up, I see the windows logos (with the black background) and right before it moves to the next screen (the blue one) the monitor goes blank and I get a "lost signal" message. HOWEVER, windows still boots because I can hear the welcome music. I can even login to my account, I just can't see what I'm doing.

WHAT I'VE TRIED
-I did two System Restores. One gave me a BSOD, the other couldn't complete but that restore point dissapeared.
-I've deleted the drivers in safe mode, I can then boot into regular mode but as soon as the drivers are reinstalled and I reboot, I get the same problem.
-I've tried my wife's graphics card in my computer. It's the same manufacturer but a different model. I installed the drivers for her card. When I reboot I get the same behavior as I did with mine.
-I've tried countless variations of deleting drivers and reinstalling, including different versions of the drivers.

So now I'm looking at the repair install. What are my chances of success?

I took some steps to rule out bad drivers and a bad graphics card. At the end of the update it said the .NET framework needed to be repaired and automatically did so. Could that have been the source of my problems?

In any case, I back up and running and happy.

I read first post and follow istructions but i don't find in links any iso for Windows 7 32bit Ultimate (italian), only professional and home..

Have read your thread from start to end and have found it very promissing in my case.

I have Windows 7 64 Professional in english and foor somme time I've started to have this problem where while playing a game (started with Dead Space 3), the computer suddenly and without warning just crashes to a black screen and after a few seconds it restarts from zero (that means it goes through all the steps till I get the windows screen and need to enter my password. After several failures in the exact same manner I started to search for anything that avoids me from having to make a clean installation, since apart from own personal files, I have so many programs that I would have to reinstall and re-register that I find it a non viable option. Office 2007, Photoshop CS6, more than 20 related programs to aid in photo developing (fiters ASO), that I would have to spend more than a month reinstalling everything to the original state (and even then I'm sure I would forget many, that I would only realize they are missing when I needed them). My laptop is a two year old ASUS G75VW and after purchasing it I installed a 750GB Samsung EVO 840 SSD, leaving the other drive, a 750GB HDD untouched. It has 16 GB RAM and starts up like a rocket (10 secs max.) After I installed the SSD. One great thing tough; I have made complete back-ups on external USB 3.0 drives since the start, so at any time I can restore the windows installation to when ever I want.

I did an sfc /scannow and the result is that windows cannot repair several corrupted files etc... ect.

I then downloaded the windows iso file for W7-64 professional, prepared a 64GB USB 3.0 flash drive and tried to remove the corrupted files, but can't make it work; some one could say, " why not use one of the backups and get done with it?" well, the simple answer is that I would most probably install the corrupted files once more, solving nothing and ending with an older version of my actual installaton. If only windows after doing the sfc /scannow would report the exact name and location of the corrupt files on the *.text file it creates, I might recover my laptop to its full operating condition for once and for all....

One final comment; the situation is getting worse, since previously it was clearly a memory and CPU failure and I say that because I was gaming at full resolution on a Dell 27" screen and in the most demanding game situations both in sound and action, but now I can be writing a word doc, with nothing else running in the backgroud and it crashes the same way. I have tried using the laptop alone, with no external keyboard or mouse and the same thibg happens; one thing is clear; I have some corrupt files every time I run the "sfc" , it finds corrupt files that can't sort ut and need to replace them one way or the other; the laptop is running at normal temperatures (have run the most demanding test programs for memory, CPU and GPU, have even cleaned the already clean fans and all is top knotch)........

So what to do in my case?
