    1) Yes, but from running setup.exe in installation media instead of Control Panel.

    2) No

    readyboost

    Hi All,

Nice tutorial and good discussion. I read the other thread for "Corrupt rdyboost.sys preventing startup" and then jumped to this.

I am a little confused. I had an OEM CD, that was my first install, that crashed, lost the CD and the serial so borrowed a CD from a friend and installed Win 7 ultimate. Build 7600 something. I did install the SP1 later. Now it crashed again and it seems to be on a loop to fix but it is not fixing it. Just attempting over and over.

So it has been said here that you need the same DVD to fix this. But I upgraded to SP1, so this means I cannot use the same DVD that i had used earlier to install this now to fix this, correct?

I tried the sfc \scaannow bootdir windir but it told me i have a different platform. So i assume it is because of te SP1. So i got a win7 ultimate with SP1 streamlined ( i think it means integrated ).

I burned it, booted and now on a page where it says "the partition may have old windows files, these will be moved". Can someone tell me if my save files which are there in the documents would be there after this move? I mean like all the saves, even my origin game saves, my download folder and the precious pictures folder? Damn i should back them up..

I know its been long and there has been no reply however will wait for some time.. :) else will just do it and hope it keeps my files..

Hello Lakshman, and welcome to Seven Forums. :)

That's correct. The installation media will need to be the same version and language of Windows 7 that you currently have installed for it to work.

Luckily, you could use the method in the tutorial below to manually backup any files you do not want to lose at boot.

Copy Paste - in Windows Recovery Console - Windows 7 Help Forums

    Thank you Brink.

Sad news.. illiterate friend pushed the continue button and it did an upgrade or a new install over the old one and i now have a new windows, I did not want to stop the process since I was afraid I would loose the files. It seems to have my old pics and stuffs, thank you for that.

I really did not want to do a new install because it is a pain putting them back on. However thank you very for your reply.

Small doubts: Does force shutting down PC do this? I kinda do that a lot.. Also would putting the OS on an SSD reduce or stop these errors?

Thanks again and please continue to help us poor souls.. :)

If you mean a hard shutdown by holding down the power button, then that could cause data loss and drive corruption since Windows didn't have time to close apps and properly shut down.

Thanks. I really appreciate your help.
I hope I won t have to do a repair install. I'll probably make things worse..........
For now, the computer is running great. I think I'll shut it down more often and see how that works out.
