Hello Swenetta, and welcome to Seven Forums.
You will need to first uninstall the conflicting software, or temporarily disable it if it's a security program like a antivirus program.
Hope this helps,

Hi Brink,
I had already done that - I guess I wasn't clear about that.
I had too - the process wouldn't go any further.
I even totally disabled my zonealarm before I even started the first time.
I just realized that this is about Window 7 Home Professional - I am using Windows 7 Professional if that makes any difference.
The problem I am having is that all my external drives are no longer being recognized by the system - they all have the dreaded ! inside the yellow triangle. Thus I can not back up my system, so I don't want to rebuild this machine. Even though I have partitioned the hard drive, and all my data is on separate partitions.
HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)
I have uninstalled and rebooted and tried reinstalling - same thing.
I have:
2 Iomega 2T ego drives
1 WD Passbok
1 WD Estential
They were all recognized and installed at one time, then ???????
Have you tried the repair install without all of the extra drives? You could reconnect and install their drivers later.

First, thanks for the clear and helpful tutorial.
i have an issue while almost completing the process the Transferring files, settings and programs is at 83% for the last 2 hours now. The little periods after the 83% keep appearing showing the process is apparently continuing but nothing happens. I am not sure if I should wait for something to happen or initiate some sort of action.
Please help if you can.
Thanks
Hello Rush, and welcome to Seven Forums.
2 hours is usually to long time for this process, but it does depend on how much you have saved on your C: drive as well. Is the .... dots still appearing and disappearing (moving), and does the mouse pointer move when you move the mouse?
If not, and the drive doesn't seem have any activity, then you might consider restarting the computer to see if it may be able to pick up where it left off before freezing up.
Hope this helps,
Shawn
Thanks for the quick reply...and the welcome!
the dots...are still appearing and disappearing, the mouse pointer still moves when i move the mouse and the drive light blinks as though there is some activity...every second or so with alternating intensity, meaning it last longer every once in a while and not simply blinking on and off.
I have to tell you that I have some 80 Gb of data...I should have placed that on my external drive and retrieved it later I guess. Could that be the cause?
If it could be then I can wait to see if it finishes doing what it does. If not i'll have to power down and then turn the power back on to see if it continues where i turned it off.
Your input is appreciated.
As long as there appears to be activity and it's continuing to actually be writing to the hard drive, then I would just let it be and see if may finish later. If you restart without it being frozen, it might pick up where you left off, but there's always a chance that you may be left having to format and do a clean install losing everything on it.
