    Can't boot

This tutorial assumes you can boot into Windows 7, but what if you can't?

My system was all set up and running perfectly (better than it ever did XP).

Then I decided to try out WarCraft 3 again. It installed and played fine, but when I exited the program, all Aero features were disabled and the options to turn them back on in Control Panel were greyed out. So I tried to restart, but while shutting down I got the BSOD and now the system will no longer boot.

I tried system restore, to no effect. Then I tried the start up repair, but that only managed to make things worse (I can now no longer access the repair options during the boot process).

Is there any way to fix this without formatting?

    Hello Velvetman,

You might see if you can boot into Safe Mode to uninstall WarCraft 3 to see if that may help.

However, it does sound like you may need to do a clean install instead.

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

Hello Auggie, and welcome to Seven Forums.

What build of Windows 7 are you using? Did you make any modifications to it? For example, a watermark remover.

There is 1 thing you could try...

Run 'Command Prompt' as Administrator and type sfc /scannow.

This will scan and replace the files altred using the Watermark patch. Then you should be able to carry on with what you were doing.

    Hope this helps :)

    Auggie,

Other than from the watermark, you can see what build number you have in About Windows.

See if you can run the repair install now that you ran the SFC /SCANNOW command. Those watermark removers can cause problems like this that usually end up in a clean reinstall to fix.
