Consider getting a video converter

Windows Movie Maker is a good place to get started, because it's free and reasonably powerful. Windows Live Movie Maker may actually like the video files from your camcorder, but it's possible, if not likely, that any other version of WMM will not. You may find it easiest, as I did, to simply bite the bullet and use a video converter to convert your files to .WMM -- a format liked by all Windows video editors.

One to try is "Any Video Converter" -- a free download you can find with Google. Another is Windows Expression Encoder, which is only slightly more difficult to use, and does a fine job of quality HD conversion of any file type I have thrown at it. Again, free, and again, Google will get you there.

Hi Folks, I'm a newbie here, all the above sounds fine, but I have the problem that my original Movie Maker is on the Windows XP and not vista, I am experiencing the problem that my Sony camcorder works fine on XP but will not import from my camcorder in Windows 7, my new laptop came with Wndows 7 and my other laptop has Windows XP, my camcorder is a Sony DCR-TRV140E and works fine on XP but not on Windows 7, it will not recognise the camcorder, I also have a Sony digital camera DSC-P9 and that works fine on both, I am at a complete loss on this..... I have loaded 'Windows Movie Maker' & 'Windows Live Movie Maker' and also 'Nero 8', but none of them will recognise the camcorder as an import device on Windows 7, I have trailed the internet, been on Microsoft and Sony sites and got nowhere!

publish not working with audio muted

wmm6.0 works fine (thanks for the trick) but i have one problem

if i mute my audio in the video file then publish does not work ( it get stuck on 0%).
- if i don't mute my audio channel it publishs ok
- there is no problem muting the audio in vista 32 bit.

as anyone got the same problem ? help !!

-> update : for those that have the same problem i found a workaround : set volume to1% instead of muting and it solves the problem.

movie maker publishing..?

Hi.. I'm new here but I thought I'd join since I pretty often have problems with my laptop :/ I have installed WMM 6 properly and editing and all that works, except publishing. When I click the publish button nothing happens, and the program stops responding. What's the cause of it and how do I fix it? :/

This is prefect, but I don't have a Vista. Is there a link to download these files?

If there is, please edit the first post with it, for people like me that are going to have to dig through the 8 page topic.

Thanks.

Sorry to bother you but i was wondering if you could help. I downloaded the file to try and get WMM6 as i really dislike WLMM and it kept coming up with the message that it failed to load and to check the binary or debug it. I was wondering if you could help me please, as my version of vista just auto updated and i lost my WMM6 to WLMM live there too! Sorry to bother you!
