hi Darryl, thanks for the tutorial. wich program is that at your desktop (the black one with the processor speed 2993Mhz)? I am having issues with asus pcprobe so I am looking another software wich gives me processor speed at least.. .it will be good to see the vcore and vid temps. thanks

Any news out there regarding the automatic update and scheduled scan issues with MSE? Some complaints date back to 10/2009 and go on right up until today. There is registry tweak floating around that is supposed to change the update frequency to any interval between 1 and 24 hours. I applied the tweak to check once an hour but really can't confirm whether it is working or not.

What I can confirm is that the scheduled scan is buggy when using Vista or Win7. I have WIN7, VISTA, and XP computers and the XP computer is the only one that will consistently run a scheduled scan. The Vista and Win7 computers will run on schedule once or sometimes twice and then suddenly stop performing the scheduled scan. You fool around with the settings and it works a time or two and the same issues again.

I know this is a free software and probably doesn't rank very high on the "to do" list for Microsoft but when will these problems get fixed? Even free software is expected to function as intended. You would think 6 months would be enough time to implement a fix.

I want to download and install MSE, but it requires validation as I'm not validating my Windows yet.
Then after validation is failed, Windows state my PC as not genuine, black screen and restart every hour.

Another security software testing organisation, Virus Bulletin, says Security Essentials’ performance is sufficient to justify its VB100 rating, which can only be attained by software that “prove[s] it can detect 100% of malware samples listed as 'In the Wild' by the WildList Organization” without generating any false positives.

Since no industry standard seems to exist as to how these testing companies perform their tests, I'm not too concerned. A product that ranks # 1 today by one testing company might be # 10 (or lower) by another testing company. It's also interesting to note that Symantec (Norton) declined to take part in previous AV testing. I wonder why.

FWIW, even if a person chooses to use a product with a 50% detection rate, that's still 100% better than the person who uses nothing at all. :)

These tests are all rigged. There's too much cash sloshing around from the paid AV's who fleece billions out of unknowing millions with their preinstalled bloatware.

There's a reason MSE is recommended by those who know the OS best, especially the crash specialists who see the problems caused by the bloated AV's.

Stick with MSE which protects the same company's OS. Who would know it better? If a user is prone to infection upgrade Malwarebytes on-demand to real-time in addition.
