The ".DeskLink" is not visible by default.

The ".DeskLink" is definitely suppose to be there and can be unhidden - if desired:

The displaying of a shortcut's extension has no impact on the functionality of the sendto menu.

Because you did not mess with the registry to delete NeverShowExt from select keys :-)

Try this please. Type or copy paste this into your search %APPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\SendTo then hit enter and it opens your Send To folder. Right click the Desktop(create shortcut) and select properties. Under the details tab you should see something like this, see attached file. Make sure you name and folder paths match the same format/ may need to configure for each user account separately while logged in as that user. Note that the file type is DESKTOP SHORTCUT, yours is desklink.file

Keep working on it, you'll get it fixed, just look at the little details.

It would be easier for folks to post the image directly in the post instead.

That is because you pasted the image into the body of the post. The tutorial that Brink linked to gives instructions on how to attach an image to a post (like you attached the doc file) and then a step that lets you put the image in the body of the post - so that you can have text above and below the image.

Did you move your user profile to another location by chance?
